10:55 PM local: India overpower West Indies in both departments of the game--batting and bowling--to go 1-0 up in the three match T20I series. So, that is it from this game as I, Keshav, on behalf of my co-commentator Pradeep, bid you a goodbye. Stay tuned to Sportskeeda for such interesting cricketing content.
Jemimah Rodrigues [Player of the Match]: I am really happy. More happy that Radha took that catch and we won the game. I dropped the sitter and after that Smriti dropped but Radha was like, "Tum done ke liye mei ek lene wali hun (I am going to grab one for you guys)" and she took a catch there. Honestly, it has been a lot of cricket lately. It is little tough to keep mentally fresh but I think yesterday I just had a conversation with Smriti and we were discussing about my batting that how I need to pace my innings. Cricket is something you can't go at one tempo. I was glad that she spoke to me and I could execute it today, batting with her. We complemented each other pretty well. My game plan was simple; singles of every ball, loose balls bonus, I am gonna run hard between the wickets, keep intent, keep being positive. I was just calculating that okay I played five overs, now I need to play next five, next five and so on because sir had told me to bat through till the end. So I just wanted to continue the same and bat through. 100% we could have scored beyond 200. That was the plan and I still felt that we could have pushed 10 runs because we know what comes when Windies plays. Deandra just going and even Joseph, so we know we got to get those extra 10-15 runs. but yeah, that's a work in progress. I think today the bowlers won us the game and I am very proud of the way they bowled. It was hard with the dew honestly. Our hard work and our efforts are in our hands and I can guarantee that we are giving it our all in the fielding. I know it's just a matter of time, just a small shift and things will change. And I believe we will bring about the change in the team.
Smriti Mandhana [India Women stand-in captain]: Harmanpreet is doing fine under the watch of medical staff. We started really well. Uma's first game as an opener. I think she was really good at the start. When Jemi came in, it was really brilliant to watch the way she went about and rotated strike. We got a decent score and a big credit to the bowlers to bowl under this much dew and executing the balls. It's really hard to bowl with this much dew. As a team we really want to keep improving even after winning. We have to go back and review where we could have been better as a batting unit. So definitely, I think the kind of conditions and with this outfield, 200 runs were on cards with the start we got. As well in bowling, we will have to review everything possible. Sajana was our sixth bowling option and definitely she was in our head to bowl one or two overs. But today all our bowlers were on fire and especially with Deandra Dottin going the way she is, getting an off-spinner I think we couldn't do that today. The situations wouldn't be same. She has been bowling really well in the domestics. We saw her bowling in the nets as well. In these conditions, to go with just five bowling options is a little tough, so we definitely have a sixth one.
Hayley Matthews [West Indies Women captain]: Just a bit loose with the ball, we wanted to bowl certain lengths but got the execution wrong. But still a lot of positives we take, Deandra Dottin and Joseph did well with the bat. The girls have spent quite a few days here, accustomed to the conditions. Probably didn't show that with the ball, but we've been working with the coaches. We back ourselves to chase anything, felt like they got 15 more. In the first 10 overs, they were around 80 and we could've restricted, but we let them off the hook.
Titas Sadhu: We all executed our plans very well, we can still do better in the next game coming up. One good thing was, we've already played here and that helped us. You still need to keep bowling in the right areas, helps the fast bowlers. It wasn't a well executed bouncer, but worked out (chuckles). There are times we try something different, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
10:24 PM local: India win by 49 runs
Match Summary: India: 195/4 (20 overs) | West Indies 146/7 (20 overs)
India Women become the first team to defend a total at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues' firepower had put enough total on the board to ease the job for the bowlers in the second innings. However, India got assured of a win only after the wicket of Deandra Dottin, who had been whacking all across the park with barely any support from the other end, following the wicket of Qiana Joseph.
India was ahead until the powerplay with the scoreline reading 36/1. However, Qiana Joseph and Deandra Dottin went after the bowlers in the period following that. Dottin, with her sweeps and reverse sweeps, milked boundaries and kept the Windies in the hunt. Some support for her from the other end might have changed the result for the visitors as she started swinging her bat left, right and centre in the lookout for boundaries and hence, threw her wicket after a couple of dropped chances.
For India, Titas Sadhu was the pick of the bowlers as she picked wickets on two occasions when she was brought again into the attack to break a partnership and she delivered for the stand-in captain, Smriti Mandhana.
India dominated over the visitors in both departments of the game--batting and bowling--to go 1-0 up in the three match T20I series. However, both the teams need to put serious work into their fielding, especially India, as they dropped multiple chances in the game. Deandra Dottin also got two lives as an early Christmas gift from Jemimah Rodrigues and Smriti Mandhana before she got dismissed.
