Commentary

Right then. India stay the only unbeaten side in this tri-series, getting the better of South Africa and West Indies in the first round of games. It's still not over though, but you'd think it's the other two sides that will be fighting for a finals berth with India already having one foot in the final. Plenty of positives to take from this game for both sides too, which is what it's all about, keeping the larger picture in mind. For now, that's all we have from the coverage of this game. Unsurprisingly, Smriti Mandhana is the Player of the Match. Here is what she has to say: (How did the pitch play?) I think the wicket was similar to Thursday but more than that, we understood our mistakes from the first game. We definitely assessed the wicket better. We were looking at a total of around 145. In the last game, we wanted to get a bit more, so our approach was different. We discussed not going hard in the first 8-10 overs. The team wanted me to take my time and play sensibly in these conditions. When Harry di came in, we got a partnership going and that gave me more confidence to keep building.

Harmanpreet Kaur (India captain): Yes definitely that’s what we thought. We didn’t wanted to hurry up, keeping wickets always gives you confidence, Whatever we discussed in the team meeting, we executed that. I think that’s what we discussed, we have to bat really well because the wicket was not easy. It was easy for me to give Smriti the strike and later on I took it on. Definitely pleased with my form, unfortunately, I wasn’t available for the first game so today it was important for me to get the runs. I am really happy that I got those runs.

Hayley Mathews (West Indies captain): We had a conversation after the 10th over to get a move on but we decided to also rotate the strike. They played really good cricket, we couldn’t quite hold a few chances but that’s how the game goes. Important game coming up and will try to improve in the coming match.

An utterly dominant win for India to cruise through against this West Indies side. It was all setup by the massive partnership between Mandhana and Harmanpreet in the first innings as they put up 115 runs between them to propel India to a healthy target.

In reply, the West Indies didn't have enough firepower in their ranks to ever pose a sustainable threat at any stage. with Hayley Matthews dropping herself down the order, Cooper and Williams couldn't impose themselves early on.

Campbelle did her bit to hang around and tried to show some intent but it never came at the desired rate. Her 71-run partnership alongside Hayley Matthews was a positive and a step in the right direction but it came in 67 deliveries. As a result, India were never under any real pressure at any stage.

Deepti Sharma did what she does best, taking wickets with the new ball. Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Radha Yadav provided enough support in the middle to stifle the West Indian batters while Shikha Pandey closed things out, which will give her some confidence on her comeback. Amanjot chipped in with a couple of overs too, as did Devika, who proved to be expensive with Matthews taking a liking to her.

India get themselves in a secure position in this tri-series with back-to-back wins from their opening games. With another round of games to go, they could perhaps afford to give a few other players a chance in the build-up to the T20 World Cup. Maybe we'll find out more about that from the captain at the presentation. So, stick around!
