Commentary

Ireland and Bangladesh have produced some quality cricket in the last few days. The first match was a washout but the next two were absolute nail-bitters! Not winning a single match here would be a hard pill to swallow for the Irish but one cannot take away any credit from Bangladesh. With that, our coverage for the day's play comes to an end. Tamim Iqbal (Bangladesh Captain): I did not plan to bowl Shanto till the 40th over. The way Miraz bowled forced me to give it to the spinner and Shanto delivered. Cricket is a funny game, we had lost hope at one stage but we somehow pulled it off. When we got Campher and Tucker, we started believing again. If you have a good bowling attack, it is always easy to captain. I am just trying to do my job. We do have a few fast bowlers injured but they are making good progress. Wherever we go, we outnumber home sides in crowd support often and England has always been a special place.

Najmul Hossain Shanto (Player of the Series): I just followed my process, I practised some spin bowling with Herath in recent days and I knew what to do. Credit to Herath as well. The plan was there for me to bowl and Miraz helped me throughout the spell. I did ask the skipper to give me the ball from time to time. I tried to follow Miraz, I could not bowl exactly like him but it was close. First hundred meant more than first wicket because that's what a batter always aims for. Very grateful to have fans come here and support us. I will not consider myself as an all-rounder but now I can ask Tamim to bowl me more often (laughs).

Mustafizur Rahman is the Player of the Match! Here's what he has to say (Tamim to translate with Fizz): He has been doing this for Bangladesh from a long time, it's nothing new. Yesterday he thought he'll got five wickets and he got four (chuckles). It feels like home when the crowd is behind you and thanks the crowd who came out to support. He spends this money on shopping!

Andy Balbirnie (Ireland captain): We did a lot of things right, but tough to see going down at the end. Couple of quick wickets and momentum shifts back to Bangladesh, crowd got them behind, two or three of us got in but didn't go all the way, we have to get better and make sure someone's there at the end. Harsh lessons to learn, we'll look back, we did a lot of things well this week, we came away with no wins. We batted pretty well all the way through, just lost couple of wickets in clusters at the back end and got tough at the back end, in our control for most part but we slipped it through. We've played a lot of matches in these sort of situations, we just got to bit harsh to ourself on batting unit, that's fine we'll keep moving forward. Looking forward to the Lords Test in three weeks.

What a win, what a win for Bangladesh! They had no business winning this match but they have snatched victory from the jaws of defeat here. The crowd has got it's money's worth. Conditions were far from favourable for Bangladesh but the crowd support was with the visitors.

Defending 275, Bangladesh needed early wickets for a head start and Mustafizur drew the first blood to send Doheny packing. However, Balbirnie and Stirling built a strong partnership from there and made things difficult for the visitors. The veterans reached their personal milestones and also added more than 100 runs for the second wicket.

Ebadot broke the partnership by dismissing the skipper. Stirling departed soon after that and Ireland found themselves in trouble for the first time in the run chase. Tector and Tucker stitched the partnership Ireland were looking for. They were scoring runs at a very good pace and taking away the scoreboard pressure. The game had slipped out of the hands of Bangladesh with Ireland only needing 52 off last 9 overs.

Tamim handed the ball to Shanto and that started one of the most extraordinary turnarounds. Shanto broke the partnership with the wicket of Tector and gave Bangladesh an opening. Mustafizur took over from there. He took three wickets in three overs including that of Lorcan Tucker to make a mockery of Ireland's lower middle order while Shanto kept things tight from the other end.

The equation was down to 32 off 18 and Adair played a few flashy strokes there to revive Ireland's chances. He took on the debutant Chowdhury in the penultimate over, and only 10 runs were needed off the final over. Mahmud defended the total in the final over after dismissing Adair in the first ball and took his side home.

49.6 Hasan Mahmud to Craig Young, BANGLADESH WIN AND TAKE THE SERIES 2-0! What a thriller this has been, went down to the wire and Mahmud holds on to his nerve. Yorker on the leg-stump, Young can't do anything about it as he misses and that hits the boot. Bangladesh seal a cracking game of cricket and Balbirnie shakes his head in the dressing room!

49.4 Hasan Mahmud to Josh Little, OH! Back of a length delivery, angled in on the leg-stump. Little can't get it away but they sneak in a tight single as Little gets the inside edge on to the pad.

49.3 Hasan Mahmud to Andy McBrine, OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Terrific change of pace and Adair goes now, Ireland hopes are diminishing with every delivery now. Another slower one, full and well outside the off-stump. Adair too early into the shot, takes the outside edge to short third-man and Mrittunjoy dives forward to take a sensational catch.

49.2 Hasan Mahmud to Craig Young, pace off again, length delivery on the off-stump. Young sensibly drills it into the off-side and brings Adair back on strike.

The drama continues! Hasan Mahmud gets his first of the game! He nails the slower ball and gets the better of Adair.

49.1 Hasan Mahmud to Mark Adair, OUT! KNOCKED HIM OVER! Mahmud delivers and Adair perishes, is that the final nail in the coffin for Ireland? Change of pace doing the trick, Adair went for a shot that he shouldn't have. Walks across off-stump scoop and misses, through to rattle off-stump. This game is back in the balance again, what a game!
