This brings us to the end of our coverage for this SA20 encounter. Like always, it was a pleasure bringing all the live updates from the game. Till the next time, this is me (Arya Sekhar Chakraborty) bidding adieu. Goodnight!
Daniel Worrall is the Player of the Match, here is what he has to say: Faf one didn't come beautifully but when you get a start like that, it really helps. I got one down the leg side but all counts. In T20 cricket you take wickets however they come. I think just being a swing bowler and extract as much as I can is my role in the team. It's my job to adapt to every conditions having played considerable amount of matches. It's a fine line, the conditions dictate how greedy you can be. When the captain gives you the opportunity early on, it helps you ease through.
Aiden Markram (Sunrisers Eastern Cape captain): That was a nice win to be honest. Few balls we got in the right areas but also got some lucky dismissals. Happy that we took our chances in the field. Malan batted beautifully and happy to see him spend some time in the middle. There was like two close games we managed to get over the line. Rest we are scrambling again, when you win close games it helps you a lot and building towards the next stage of the competition. Guys will play, you never take form and those things for granted. Confident in the change room is hard to get so once you have it, you have to continue that. Two big games against Paarl coming up.
Faf du Plessis (Jo'burg Super Kings captain): Shocked to be honest. Its a case of not batting well and not accessing the conditions. The pitch was on the slower side and we didn't apply well. We were unlucky as well, haven't seen a game where there has been three strangle down the leg side. It feels like one of those days. There was a combination of not great batting but down the leg side dismissals hurt us. That is how the game goes, when the game is against you have to fight a bit harder. With the tournament is looking at the moment, we have made it very tough for us in the final game. The cards didn't fall your way, you have to look forward. Durban are playing brilliantly but we know if we can be close to our best, we can be a dangerous side. The runs in the first six was same but the loss of wickets hurt has badly and we can learn from our mistakes and come out strongly in the final game.
Time for the post-match presentation ceremony.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape won by 9 wickets (with 54 deliveries to spare)
Dawid Malan 40*(32) | Patrick Kruger 3/8(2) Wayne Madsen 32(23) | Lizaad Williams 1/7(2)
A thoroughly convincing victory for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape as they beat the Jo'burg Super Kings by 9 wickets and also became the third team after DSG to qualify for the playoffs. The target of 79 was never really going to challenge the Eastern Cape batting line and it turned out in that fashion. It was Dawid Malan and Jordan Hermann who began the innings in pursuit of 79. They saw out the first two overs before going after the bowlers. Both Moeen Ali and Nandre Burger was picked up for 13 and 11 runs respectively in their final overs of the powerplay and it was almost done and dusted by then. Malan who was playing his first game at the Supersport Park in Centurion spent some quality time in the middle and struck some impressive shots to remain unbeaten on 40 off 32 deliveries.
Lizaad Williams dismissed Hermann against the run of play but that was the only wicket which JSK could scalp. Tom Abell was cautious to start with but as the target came down, he went after the bowlers and finished it off rather quickly. A four and a six of Tom Abell in the final over helped them chase it down with 9 overs to spare. Earlier in the day, it was a stunning bowling effort from the Eastern Cape bowlers to bowl out JSK for just 78 runs. Patrick Kruger and Daniel Worrall bowled brilliantly, bagging three wickets each. Wayne Madsen was the only batter who got going and scored 32 off 23 deliveries. The Eastern Cape will be pleased with the performance. They have also bagged the bonus point.
