That brings us to the end of our coverage from the opening encounter of PSL. We have a double header tomorrow and a lot of other cricketing action lined up as well. But for now, this is me (Arya Sekhar Chakraborty) bidding goodbye. Goodnight!
Shadab Khan (Islamabad United captain): I think we were backing our strength. We have a very good batting side so we wanted to put pressure on our batters. We wanted to bowl first because later on they have fast bowler but with dew the pitch gets better. When we bagged him in the draft everyone asked me about Salman's role. Everyone knows now what is his role. We have to improve in fielding. We have to give encouragement to Ubaid Shah. How he bowled and how he showed attitude in the field. Yeah I was taking to the management, we have been in these situations we had lost. I said that we have to finish it today.
Shaheen Afridi (Lahore Qalandars captain): I think we should give credit to Shadab and Salman. Not easy for the bowlers with dew around. We missed Rashid because he was the impact bowled. We can't do anything about it, he is unavailable due to injury. If you take your catches you win matches. It's a long tournament so it's not the end of it.
Shadab Khan is the Player of the Match, here is what he had to say: When I was there in ILT20 I came from injury so it's not easy to perform straightaway. There were six debutants today so extra pressure as a leader. I wanted to control the game as a batter and take wickets as well. I was struggling in the World Cup, after the injury you need some time off.
Agha Salman: I always wanted to play for them as I feel there style of game suits me. After the first innings, we knew it was just a par score. We knew that 180 190 was always gettable. Me and Shadab planned to hit a boundary early on in the over and that what we kept doing. First game is always important, winning the opening game gives you momentum. Islamabad always have a good set up and keeps backing up no matter what. I happy playing for them.
Islamabad United won by 8 wickets (with 10 deliveries to spare)
Shadab Khan 74*(41) | Tymal Mills 2/45(4) Rassie van der Dussen 71*(41) | Salman Fayyaz 1/23(2.2)
It turned out to be a dominating run chase from Islamabad United as they made light work of the big score of 195 and chased it down with 8 wickets in hand and with 10 deliveries to spare. The Lahore Qalandars bowled wides and no balls which didn't help things. Captain Shadab Khan played a captain's knock remaining unbeaten on 74 off 41 deliveries while Salman Agha was equally good with a 31 ball 64. Colin Munro was dismissed early but Alex Hales batted well in the company of Shadab Khan. They couldn't find the boundaries at the rate they would have wanted but it was a steady start for them which created the platform for Salman and Shadab to go big.
Hales was dismissed by Salman Fayyaz who was making his debut. It was a very crucial juncture of the game but from there on Shadab and Salman made it a one way traffic. They treated the Lahore Qalandars bowlers with disdain which included the likes of Pakistan T20 skipper Shaheen Afridi and their premier fast bowler Haris Rauf. It was hitting of the highest order without being too extravagant. They played proper cricketing shots but wasn't afraid to take on the aerial route. Boundaries kept coming at a brisk pace and in the end, it was just too easy.
18.2 Salman Fayyaz to Shadab Khan, SIX! Shadab finishes it off in style. Islamabad United win by 8 wickets. Was a tossed-up delivery around the middle stump, Shadad holding shape and swings through the line, sends it many a mlle over the long-on fence.
18.1 Salman Fayyaz to Salman Agha, fuller-length around the middle stump, whipped away towards the long-on region for a single.
Salman Fayyaz is back into the attack.

17.6 Shaheen Afridi to Shadab Khan, Shadab makes some room and bunts away the length delivery around middle, straight to the mid-off fielder.
17.5 Shaheen Afridi to Shadab Khan, on a good-length around the middle stump channel, a defensive push back to the bowler.
17.4 Shaheen Afridi to Salman Agha, a yorker-length delivery on the pads, flicked away towards the deep backward square leg region and has to settle for a single. Just 3 more required.
17.4 Shaheen Afridi to Salman Agha, wide again, fullish-length down the leg side, Salman gets inside the line of the ball and tries to whip it away over fine leg, called a wide.
17.4 Shaheen Afridi to Salman Agha, on a good-length down the leg side and that has to be reloaded.
17.3 Shaheen Afridi to Salman Agha, SIX! That has been pummeled for a maximum. On a length drifting down leg, Salman uses the pace of the ball and pulls it away well over the deep fine leg fence. That was just helped away by using the pace of the ball.
17.2 Shaheen Afridi to Salman Agha, FOUR! Really clever from Salman, moves well across off and ramps this length delivery around the middle stump, well wide of the short fine leg fielder and that races away to the fence.
17.1 Shaheen Afridi yo Salman Agha, on a good-length a shade outside off, bludgeoned from the cue end of the bat, just clearing the cover fielder and a couple of runs taken.
