That is all that we have from the Junction Oval in Melbourne, but do switch tabs to follow the second BBL game of the day from the Gabba in Brisbane. This is the pair of Srivathsa and Bidipto saying good bye for now. Keep following Sportskeeda!
Josh Inglis 74 (33) | Jason Behrendorff - 3/32 Beau Webster 43 (32) | Luke Wood - 5/50
Melbourne Stars tried hard to keep up with the asking rate right from the start, did manage to play some important shots for fours and sixes, but the superior bowling from the Perth Scorchers was just too good for the hosts!
The spin twins - Ashton Agar and Peter Hatzoglou - were highly impressive today with the lengths and clever changes of pace. The pace attack, comprising Jhye Richardson, Jason Behrendorff and Andrew Tye, took 5 wickets and got the lengths right in particular against the opposition batting.
As for the Stars, another failure from Marcus Stoinis will concern them going forward. If there is one batter who is due for runs, big runs that too, it is him. Beau Webster looked good as long as he lasted, Joe Clarke started well but could not carry on and young Campbell Kellaway was impressive with his stroke-play when he held his shape.
Last but not the least, the fielding and catching from the Scorchers was simply breathtaking! They stopped two sure-shot sixes and almost stopped another! Then there were some fine pieces of ground fielding in the outfield to save boundaries. And, at least three catches were made to look easy. On the whole, an exemplary performance from the visitors today in this department, even if there was a drop catch in there!
So that is the second win for the Perth team as they overtake the Melbourne Stars now, who have some thinking to do, especially with the ball.
