From chasing a record score to beating CSK at Chepauk - Punjab were successful in doing the hardest things in this format but failed to click with the bat while chasing the score of 168. Can you believe it? With a destructive top-order, they looked a formidable outfit in the later stages of the tournament, but the CSK attack had all answers against them and got revenge. The visitors never had a settled attack, but when the situation demanded, the ones, who got a chance rose to the occasion and helped them cross the finish line with ease.
With this victory, CSK put themselves in a pole position to qualify for the playoffs, while Punjab have to rely on the results of the other teams even if they win all their remaining matches. We are done with Match no.1 in this double-header and it's time to switch tabs to find out what's happening in Lucknow between the Super Giants and Knight Riders. For now, it's time to end the coverage here. Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did it bringing it you. Until next time, this is Pragadeesh and Pradeep signing off. Ciao
Ravindra Jadeja (Player of the Match) - It was a day game and wicket was slow throughout. Initially, we did well in the partnerships and then did well in the middle overs. Mitchell Santner and myself bowled well in a slow wicket like this and the fast bowlers did their part too. It gave everyone an indication that it was a flat wicket at first place but it gotten really slow. We were 15-20 short but we bowled really well. My role is to build partnerships with bat and then go big at the end. But the games we are winning we are doing well at the start and the middle phase as well. I am happy with the win and we have to click in all facets of the game
Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings Captain) - (Whether the toss matters) It doesn't matter after you win the game but it matters for me. I think everyone believed the wicket was slow with low bounce. With the start we got, we thought of pushing the total over 180 but we lost two quick wickets and that changed our plan. We were thinking of getting 170. (On Simarjeet) Definitely, I don't know what he's doing. In the pre-season we had, he was clicking 150kph. He didn't get too much of a chance considering our settled attack. We thought of sending an impact batter but I am very happy for him. We were not sure about who's playing and who's not until morning and that makes this win a very special

Tushar Deshpande (Chennai Super Kings): Very happy today, was a low scoring in terms of how the teams have been scoring in the tournament. I tried my best in the last game, I wanted to give my best today and was a surprise game. In Dharamsala the ball does and I managed to pick up early wickets. It was a bit slow, if you bowl into the pitch and it wasn't coming off and needed to strike with the new ball.
Sam Curran (Punjab Kings captain): Thought we bowled well as a group, we gave ourselves a chance to win this game and was happy towards the half-way stage but wasn't meant to be. Fractionally slower one, might be quicker we thought with the bounce but slower and sluggish, was similar throughout the game. We play against RCB in a few days, move on and come back with a win in the next few games.
Chennai Super Kings won by 28 runs
CSK got revenge as they produced a clinical bowling performance to outclass Punjab. They made the target of 168 look big after removing the two lynchpins of Punjab's top-order, Bairstow and Rossouw. With the pacers love to bowl on this track inside the powerplay, CSK decided to go with Santner and he did a remarkable job by keeping things tight in his first two overs. But the highlight of the powerplay from CSK's point of view was Deshpande's double strike in his first over
The pacer set the tone but Prabhsimran and Shashank went after Gleeson to take the momentum away from the visitors. They were in an attacking mode and ended the powerplay on a good note but Jadeja's spell in the middle changed the complexion of the match. After Santner removed Shashank, Dhoni had a chat with Jadeja and the spinner bowled three fantastic overs to make a real impact in the game. Nothing to take away from the impact sub, Simarjeet, who was rushing the batters for pace and bounce, and he kept his discipline throughout to pick up two wickets to his name
Punjab went like a steep train until the powerplay but fell like a pack of cards in the middle phase of the game. It wasn't an easy task for the bowlers to defend a total under 170 in a ground like Dharmasala but the CSK attack found the right formula in this slightly two-paced track and gave a hard time to the batters once the powerplay ended

19.6 Shardul Thakur to Harpreet Brar, THAT IS THAT! CSK break the winning streak of Punjab finally and win this encounter pretty convincingly, they are back to winning ways here as well. Short into the batter, Brar top edged the pull over mid-wicket, falls in no man's land and they get just one.
19.5 Shardul Thakur to Kagiso Rabada, low full toss, well outside the off-stump. Rabada had to reach and skied it over the top of extra-cover, falls right in between two fielders as they get the one.
19.4 Shardul Thakur to Kagiso Rabada, short outside the off-stump, Rabada has a big swing and a miss, through to the keeper.
19.3 Shardul Thakur to Kagiso Rabada, FOUR LEG-BYES! Length delivery on the leg-stump. Rabada misses the flick, deflects off the back pad and races away to fine-leg ropes for four leg-byes.
19.2 Shardul Thakur to Kagiso Rabada, cutter and angled it across left-hander outside the off-stump. Rabada sits on one knee and has a big swing and a miss.
19.1 Shardul Thakur to Harpreet Brar, yorker length outside the off-stump, Brar digs it out down the ground to long-off for just a single.
Getting MS Dhoni out first ball is a big deal for any bowler but Harshal didn't show his excitement after the wicket. He has explained the reason behind it 👇
18.6 Richard Gleeson to Kagiso Rabada, SIX! BANG! That is a mighty hit from Rabada, gets hold of it. Short into the batter, Rabada gets into position and clobbered it handsomely over deep mid-wicket for a maximum.
