Right then. So, the Mumbai Indians and the Delhi Capitals sit in the top two spots as the points table starts to take shape in this tournament. The two sides have got massive wins under their belt too, which could go a long way in the tournament as it progresses. Will the UP Warriorz join them to kick off their tournament with a win, or will the Gujarat Giants fight back tonight to get their first win on the board? Well, you can switch tabs to catch all the action from that game, but for now, that's all we have from this contest. This is Pratyush Rohra, signing off on behalf of my partner, Pradeep Somashekar. We hope you enjoyed our coverage as much as we enjoyed bringing it to you. Tata!
Tara Norris is the Player of the match! Here's what she has to say: Meg and Shafali started fantastically with the bat, takes the pressure of the bowlers, really happy. Never thought I would've dreamed of taking a fifer, just happy to be here. Probably the first wicket was pretty special, chance of playing and bowling was brilliant. Will take Perry's wicket any day!
Meg Lanning (Delhi Capitals captain): Lot of fun, great venue to play and the crowd were amazing, the atmosphere was there, nice to start off with a win. We were thinking about bowling too, it's a belter of a wicket, wasn't going to change throughout and Shafali was good at the other end. We were smiling a lot of the time, that's the great thing of such competition, you get to learn from the people you play with. We felt it was a good score, was a such a great wicket, if we bowl well and take wickets, up front we did that and we're happy to take the win and important to keep the momentum.
A dominating win for the Delhi Capitals 💥
Shafali Verma, Meg Lanning and Tara Norris were the stars of the show ✨
Smriti Mandhana (Royal Challengers Bangalore captain): Not the start we wanted, on the field we weren't great and gave away 20-30 runs more extra. As far as the bowling is concerned, we didn't use much of slower one's to effect, will try and come back to correct that. We're used to other franchises playing back to back games, just try and take the positives out of the game and come back stronger tomorrow. The pitch didn't change at all, we got the starts but didn't build on, don't think opting to bowl first was a wrong decision, we could've taken the game deep.
Another day, another comprehensive victory for a side. That has been the case in the two games we've played so far in this tournament with the teams batting first running away with commanding wins to kick off their tournament with a statement of intent. It was Mumbai Indians last night, and it's the Delhi Capitals, today, displaying a clinical performance to get their first points on the board.
It was set by by the captain herself, delivering a sensational 162-run stand alongside Shafali Verma, with both batters recording half-centuries. That set the tone of the rest of the innings, and more or less the rest of the game, to be honest. The Capitals went on to post a mammoth total on the board courtesy of Kapp's cameo at the backend of the innings.
In reply, the Royal Challengers Bangalore got off to a rollicking start, keeping up with the demands of the situation they found themselves in. Mandhana and Devine made sure that their team has a decent Powerplay but it wasn't enough as Delhi kept chipping away at regular intervals. Capsey got the ball rolling by dismissing the two openers, and it was the Tara Norris show from thereon.
With the obvious focus on the batting, the only associate player in the tournament will take the headlines with her bowling. The USA international became the first bowler in the tournament to take a five-wicket haul, completely dismantling the rest of the RCB batting unit. Shikha Pandey also got herself a wicket with the rest of the bowling unit doing their bit to keep things tight.
All in all, it's a comprehensive victory for the Delhi Capitals as they get themselves off the mark in some style in this tournament. Stick around for the presentations to see what the captains have to say.
