Commentary

And with that, we come to the end of our coverage of yet another enthralling game of the 3-match ODI series between South Africa and England. Who says ODIs are dead? We need a lot more of those, we need a lot more multi-national tournaments to witness such classics with higher stakes - one World Cup in 4 years just doesn't suffice! Of course, we will be back with plenty of cricketing action tomorrow. For now, this is Rajarshi, signing off on behalf of myself and Raghav. Good night!

Temba Bavuma, South Africa captain and Player of The Match: Playing against England is always a tough ask, discipline is always being tested, it's always a good opportunity for us to go out and test our way of playing. Going out and chasing 343 like that gives us a lot of confidence. Good day, good outing for us. (On his century) It was very enjoyable, the wickets here at Bloemfontein are quite nice. It was good for me to remind myself to count to a hundred as well. David was still there towards the end, Marco was there as well, Marco struggled to get it away, but I think the guys were quite calm. We had wickets in hand, something miraculous could have happened for us to lose that game. The guys were fairly cool. We spoke about trying to dominate the first 10 overs with the ball, I think we were there, yes we didn't get the wickets we wanted, but we were still there. At one stage they left their intensity, but I felt the guys stayed in it, we knew that a couple of wickets would kind of slow them down. At the end, probably not our best with how we finished it. With our batting, we knew how to come out and play, and we took the situation out of it and played the conditions. Conditions were good for batting, and we were able to exploit it. All in all, good performance from us, there are certain areas where we can improve, but good performance altogether. Lovely crowd, haven't played here in quite a while, but to see the people in the stands was magnificent. I'm sure Kimberly would be the same. Thanks to the crowd, thanks for the support. We haven't played in Kimberly in a number of years, so it's hard to know what to expect, but Wednesday will be another opportunity for us to go out and execute our plans.

Jos Buttler, England Captain: We did not expect the ball to swing much. South Africa bowled really well initially. I think we did a great job to get to 340 from that stage. Great chase from South Africa, I think it was a great game of cricket. Temba led from the front and Makram, Miller and Klaasen chipped in, we could not get wickets regularly. Brooks had a great outing, he has already done well in T20 and Test and now he has got off to a great start in ODIs as well. We are looking forward to the final ODI.

South Africa win by 5 wickets with 5 balls to spare and lead the 3-match ODI series 2-0

This is the highest successful run-chase at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein, and what a tremendous run-chase it was! South Africa never looked deflated after the Buttler finish walking out to chase a steep target of 343, and they got off to the perfect start! What made it more special was that it was their skipper, Temba Bavuma, usually a batter of accumulating nature, who led the charge early on as Quinton de Kock took his time to settle in!

Bavuma just thumped the ball into the gaps on the field like they were the only areas visible to him, and England's new-ball duo of Chris Woakes and Reece Topley had no answer to that! The wicket seemed good to bat on, there was steep bounce at times but not much movement off the deck, and the South African openers took full toll of that! Quinton de Kock joined the party soon after, going right after Chris Woakes and taking 14 out of the 15 off the 7th over.

Olly Stone managed to break the opening stand worth 77 at the end of the 12th over, but that brought Rassie van der Dussen to the middle. Another partnership ensued, with South Africa firmly on the driver's seat. Bavuma was starting to struggle with cramps as he neared his hundred, but once he got there with a cracking cover drive off Rashid, the pain seemed to be gone as he celebrated with utmost glee! Sadly, he couldn't stay there for much longer, playing one right back onto his stumps from Curran trying to lap the left-armer. Van der Dussen, who was just starting to warm himself into it, followed soon after, and suddenly, the game seemed to be in the balance again.

Markram and Klaasen then went on to put up an exhibition of fine ball striking, smashing it into the gaps and out of the ground on occasions and pulled the hosts back out of the rut. By the time Klaasen was dismissed, the game was well and truly set up for David Miller to come in and play one of his decisive knocks, and that was exactly what the South African left-handed veteran did eventually. While Markram failed to convert his start into a big one and get the job done, Miller, alongside Jansen, calmly pierced the gaps, ran exceedingly well between the wickets, and upon the slightest opportunity, cleared the ropes, especially targeting the short boundary!

Things got just a teensy bit tense towards the end as Olly Stone and Sam Curran delivered a few quiet overs, keeping England just about in the game, but the game slipped out of them towards the end of the penultimate over, with the duo sprinting for a couple of braces and Jansen finding the ropes off the final ball. It took Miller just one delivery to end the game in the final over, as he slashed one into the stands off Woakes and sealed the series for the Proteas!

The most glamorous way to seal a series! David Miller with the killer blow! South Africa chase down 343, would you believe it, 343 with 4 balls to spare! That'll boost their chances for direct World Cup qualification by a long way, they are too good to be left out from the group of big boys!
