That brings us to the end of our coverage of this match. Both these teams will play each other on Sunday for one final time in this series. Still some cricket left today; the inaugural 2023 Indian Premier League game between the Gujarat Titans and the Chennai Super Kings is heading towards a tense and exciting climax! Click here to follow our coverage of the same! This is Rajarshi, signing off on behalf of myself and Arya. Good night!
Temba Bavuma, South Africa captain: It was a clinical performance. We had it in the first half with the ball. They got off to a good start, but our sentiment as a team was to keep our shape, keep our control, wait for the mistakes and the mistakes came. With the bat, our approach was the same, looking at the conditions, set game plans as our options, and then executions. (On Shamsi's performance) It'll be a big confidence booster for Shamsi. He hasn't gotten the wickets with the performances he put in. We back him as our match-winner, when teams come up against Shammo they know that they have to have their guard up. He needs to keep growing, keep challenging himself and the results will show. I'm just enjoying my cricket, there's a certain level of backing and confidence around within the environment at the moment and a lot of the guys are feeding from it. It's also clear as to how we want to go about things, makes things a lot better. It's about time that the guys will match their talent and skills to their game. Technically, I haven't changed anything, just a lot more clearer mentally. (On Pink day) Pink day is always a big event on our calendar. We also seem to play well in the pink outfit. It'll be another opportunity to go out there and express ourselves.
Sisanda Magala, Player Of The Match: Just keeping it as simple as possible. It's important to not try to overthink about stuff. That was my role today, keeping it simple. I like to vision what I want to achieve during the day. It works only at times, but I keep the same mindset and don't shy away from it. The nerves are always there (chuckles), the team environment is very good, it's very welcoming. You can go out there and express yourself, and there's a level of calmness within the team. It's an environment which encourage people to excel. We are heading towards a very good direction. (On playing in the IPL) I'm excited about the opportunity, but I'm very nervous and anxious too. It's probably the longest I'll be away from home.
Sisanda Magala has been adjudged the Player Of The Match
Scott Edwards, Netherlands captain: We got a good start with the bat, but we had to go on from there. 189 was always well below the mark. We had to bowl well, which we didn't. Our batters have had good starts, but we need to get those big hundreds. The next game is a chance for us to come back and show what we're made of. It's (Pink day) is a great cause, and we're looking forward to the occasion. Should be a good crowd, and hopefully, some good cricket.
Right, now it's time for the post match presentations!
South Africa won by 8 wickets (with 20 overs to spare)
An emphatic victory for the Proteas as they make light work of the target set by the Netherlands and win by 8 wickets with 20 overs to spare. They took their time early on as the opening duo of Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma batted cautiously during the first six overs. QDK was deceived by Aryan Dutt who had a good day in the office.
From there on, Rassie van der Dussen shared an impressive stand with Bavuma and rested home the initiative. They played some delectable shots but didn't try to do anything extraordinary. They played according to the merit of the ball and it looked easy for the home team. Fred Klaassen troubled them on a few occasions but that was few and far between.
Klaassen dismissed Van der Dussen and Netherlands sensed an opening. However, the likes of Bavuma and Aiden Markram ensured that that was the final time when the Dutch could smile during the chase. Both batters were authoritative in their approach and played some amazing shots.
Bavuma remained unbeaten on 90 off 79 deliveries which included 8 fours and a six. Markram also clubbed some exquisite shots and never really looked fazed. They eventually chased it down on the final delivery of the 30th over. With that, South Africa has also ensured their direct qualification to the World Cup slated to be played in India later this year. o
