Pitch Report
It's searingly hot in the middle. Higher to 40 degrees. 53 metres hitting square but you'd be hitting against the wind and it's 10 metres on the other side. You always get a little bit of seam movement. The grass color is lovely and it'd be quite compact. When South Africa show up to bowl first they'd hope it doesn't dry out too early.

That would be all from our side as we draw the curtains on our live coverage of this Women's T20 World Cup game between South Africa and West Indies. For now, it's Soumarya Dutta signing off on behalf of Rudransh. See you soon!
We've had an excellent game of cricket here in Dubai and South Africa Women have got themselves off to a superb start in the tournament. They've fired all cylinders and will pose a major threat to all other sides in the competition. West Indies Women however have a real job on their hands when they come out for their next game. They need to do some soul searching and come back better prepared.
Laura Wolvaardt (South African Captain)- " It wasn't that easy to be honest and it was one of my better knocks. The over rate thing wasn't in our favor and it's not easy with the heat out there in the middle. We were seven overs down at one stage and we had to squeeze in a lot of spin post the halfway mark of the innings. Overall though, I feel that it has been a really good performance. Kapp was really good at the beginning and Mlaba was excellent in the middle phase. It felt quite good getting to chase down the total with 10 wickets remaining. "
Hayley Matthews(West Indies Women Captain) - "It's disappointing right now and it will take us some good performances in the next few games for us to bounce back. It's about picking up the pieces and playing our best. The South Africans were really good. Hopefully Zaida will recover well. She was hit in the face while stopping the ball and we hope that she is ready to come back into the team for the next game. "
Nonkululeko Mlaba is the Player of the Match, here's what she has to say: This is very special for me, especially, because I am playing for the people of South Africa. I have the names of family and my people on my shirt, so very special. For me, it was all about not leaving the stumps, bowling straight. My mates supported me so well and I am grateful for them. I am so happy for them (the openers), I told them, "Yesss, man" when they came back.
South Africa Women 119 without loss in 17.5 overs Laura Wolvaardt 59*(55) Tazmin Brits 57*(52)
The runners up of previous T20 World Cup have arrived in the competition and they've thumped the former World Champions West Indies by 10 wickets. It has been an absolute demolition job for the opening batters after the bowlers restricted West Indies too just 118 runs from the 20 overs. People had concerns about the pitch but the two openers Wolvaardt and Brits didn't break a sweat as they kept picking up the runs easily throughout the innings.
Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits got South Africa off to a positive start. They took on henry and scored the runs against her. Matthews was economical early on and the two openers played her cautiously. However they kept milking the runs of the other bowlers and by the end of the powerplay they had reached to 43 without the loss of any wicket.
The run feast continued as Matthews searched for options to get the breakthrough. To make matters worse for her, Ramharack dropped Wolvaardt which created further pressure on them. By the halfway stage of the innings, South Africa were miles ahead as they needed a paltry 51 runs from the final 10 overs of the innings with all the wickets intact.
Hayley Matthews rotated her bowlers and gave everyone a shot but except for her no one could make an impact. Wolvaardt was the first to get to her 50 and she was followed to the milestone by Brits who played an equally important knock. South Africa never fell behind the run rate and there wasn't even a single period where they seemed to be under pressure. They won the game in the 18th over with all the wickets intact.
South Africa Women kick their campaign off with a comprehensive 10 wicket victory over West Indies.
17.5 Karishma Ramharack to Laura Wolvaardt, full outside off, Wolvaardt makes a bit of room and drives it hard to mid-off to pick up the single that seals a 10-wicket win for South Africa! They start their T20 World Cup in style!
SCORES LEVEL NOW! Just one more required to win for South Africa.
17.4 Karishma Ramharack to Laura Wolvaardt, short on middle and off, rocks back and pulls it aerially to deep mid-wicket. The fielder fumbles it on the bounce, allowing a second and South Africa to level the score.
17.3 Karishma Ramharack to Tazmin Brits, charges down the ground and chips it to long on for one
17.2 Karishma Ramharack to Tazmin Brits, full and skiddy, inside-edges the flick onto her pads
17.1 Karishma Ramharack to Laura Wolvaardt, short on middle and leg, pulled to deep mid-wicket for one
Three more overs left and just five more runs remaining in the chase. Laura Wolvaardt has led the charge throughout the innings and she will be looking to finish this game off in style.
