Commentary

It's been a one way street this morning, and we hope the second semi final is a more competitive one. Tamil Nadu have booked one slot, and for the other one, it will be Karnataka battling it out with Vidarbha. The second semi final will start at 1 pm IST, so don't forget to join us then! A pretty one sided affair, and a pretty comfortable chase it has been for Tamil Nadu. They march onto their third consecutive final, and will be aiming for a second trophy in as many years. They've outplayed their opposition today, and gave nothing away, with ball or with bat. They started off in a perfect manner, with Saravana Kumar picking up 4 wickets in the powerplay, a blow that was too brutal to recover from.

The bowlers did their job well, as they restricting the awestruck batting unit of Hyderabad for just 90, and bowled them out inside 19 overs. For a stellar batting order as the one Tamil Nadu have, chasing 91 would never have been a big task, and they've shown it just why. They might have taken their own sweet time to chase this down, as they took it into the 15th over, but they played to what the game required.

Hyderabad did not go down without a fight. Rakkhsann Readdi picked up a couple of early wickets, in his second over, and sent both the threatening openers back into the hut within 3 deliveries. Jagadeesan had faced only a couple of deliveries till then, and picked up a run, but he was undone by the slower one, that he edged to slip.

His partner in crime, Hari Nishaant was off to a flier, with a maximum and a boundary, to show intent, and the way he is going to go about the chase. He was next to depart, after a quickfire dozen runs on the board. He wanted to chase this down quickly, as it was seen with his intent, but he'll have to make it up in the finals!

Sai Sudharsan and Vijay Shankar had the onus to steady the ship, and calm things down, out in the middle. Both did exactly that, as they took a few deliveries to settle in, get a feel of the pitch, and then open up to a few strokes here and there to pick up the ones and twos. The benefit they had, was that they had no scoreboard pressure to deal with, making things easier for them.

The spinners came into the attack, and tried to force a wicket, but both the batter's played some smart shots, to ensure no further wickets fall, and Tamil Nadu ease through that win. Shankar did display a couple of swanky shots at the end to seal the deal, but that was only because he was settled and he got a couple of nice pacy short balls.

Barring Readdi, no other bowlers managed to trouble the Tamil Nadu batters today. In all fairness, the bowlers cannot be blamed, as they did not have enough runs on the board to play with. It was always going to be Tamil Nadu's game today, unless they replicate Hyderabad's batting efforts, which would have been shameful.

Nevertheless, Tamil Nadu do pull through, comfortably as well, and will wait to see who joins them in the finals.

So much for not taking charge, and not going after the bowlers. Vijay Shankar was waiting for some pace, that's all. Readdi charges in and Shankar goes after him. A boundary through deep mid wicket, and a maximum, over backwards square leg to clinch the game. Tamil Nadu book their place in the final, and will have a chance at becoming back to back champions.

Shorter this time and angled into middle and leg, he lifts his front foot and helps it with the bounce over long leg as the ball just clears the ropes. Barely a reaction from the TN skipper - it has been that comprehensive a victory for the defending champions. Tamil Nadu beat Hyderabad by 8 wickets to make their third consecutive Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final!

14.1 Rakshann Readdi to Vijay Shankar, FOUR! PUMPED OVER MID-WICKET! Short of a length at the stumps, the skipper stands tall for a short-arm pull over mid-wicket to pick out the vacant real estate in the deep. Just one hit away now are Tamil Nadu!
