Commentary

That brings us to the end of our coverage for the 2nd ODI between UAE and West Indies. Lots of cricketing action lined up tomorrow. Please join us for the WTC final along with several other matches. Johnson Charles (Player of the Match): Definitely getting man of the matches is always special. That means you have done something special and contributing for your teams feels great. It's the selector's job, my job is to score as many runs as possible. My role is to get the side off to a good start and I have been doing that. I don't consider the sun hot here, it's fire. The pitch looks good, came on nicely early on but if you bowl good-lengths the bowlers can also get some assistance.

Shai Hope (West Indies captain): Yes as you said a win is a win. Well at first I thought the conditions dictated on what he did the best. Charles got us to a great start and its always happy to see the batters get off to a good start. There wasn’t much swing but it was good bowling from Jordan to get their best batter. We tried to keep getting wickets, trying to put pressure in the middle overs but unfortunately couldn’t quite get the wickets towards the end. It was some good batting from the two UAE batters. Can expect a few changes in the next game.

Vriitya Aravind (UAE vice-captain): Hopefully, can get a good knock in the next game and contribute to the team's success. The way Ali Naseer has been batting in his first series has been unbelievable. Basil also batted well. Honestly, Ali has been unreal scoring two fifties against a team like this. We have an important tournament coming up in Zimbabwe. So, a win will give us confidence!

Despite some fight being shown by the UAE batters, West Indies went on to register a comprehensive victory against UAE by 78 runs in the 2nd ODI to register a 2-0 victory in the series with a match to go. The spinners squeezed the UAE batters in the middle overs and despite some useful knocks from Ali Naseer and Basil Hameed and a late surge from Aayan Khan, the hosts fell short.

Kevim Hodge and Roston Chase were the picks of the overs with a couple each white Jordan, Smith and Cariah bagged a wicket each. Akeem Jordan was spot on with his lengths early on his spell as he dismissed the dangerous Muhammed Waseem very early on. Aryansh Sharma and Vritya Aravind stitched together a good partnership before Aryansh flicked one straight to the square-leg fielder of Odean Smith.

It was a fantastic catch from Dominic Drakes to send back Asif Khan and there was no way back from thereon. The required rate kept creeping up but it was some good hitting from Ali Naseer which kept them in the hunt. Hameed couldn’t quite get the flow to his innings but a few boundaries here and there helped them stay afloat in the game.

However some tight bowling from Hodge, Cariah and Roston Chase in the middle overs put the stem on the run flow and despite some impressive shots, this was always going to be a tall order for UAE. In the end, a couple of impressive shots from Aaryan Khan towards the end propelled UAE to 228.
