We now come to the close of our coverage of the 2024 Women's Premier League for the day. Not much time for the Warriorz to bounce back - they have a game with the Delhi Capitals tomorrow. The Mumbai Indians will return the day after - taking on the Gujarat Giants for the second time this season. They weren't quite able to usurp the Delhi Capitals off the top, but the Mumbai Indians return to winning ways in a big way. The UP Warriorz were gaining momentum halfway into their 2024 WPL campaign, but these back-to-back defeats are bound to derail them. Their spin-heavy ploy didn't quite work out the way they would have wanted today, and once they lost their top-order over the course of the powerplay, the Warriorz were always going to fall behind.

Natalie Sciver-Brunt has been adjudged the Player Of The Match! Here's what she has to say: Very happy with the performance. We wanted to get some things right from the last game, we didn't do our best. Probably didn't get off to the best of starts, but assessing the conditions, it was a winning total. We sort of knew it was going to be a bit low, wasn't sure until we played on it. Instinct sometimes takes over and makes you take squarer options rather than straighter options. We wanted to get to 160, because it was a quick outfield. I like playing off the back foot, has been a strength of mine for a while. Was very happy with the back-of-hand slower ones, have been working on it. Ideally I needed to bowl closer to off-stump for the hat-trick ball, but getting a couple of wickets was bit of a bonus, we were happy to restrict them to that total, helped our own Net Run Rate.

Harmanpreet Kaur, Mumbai Indians captain: While batting, we thought we were behind by 20 runs, when they came to bat we just figured we actually managed very well. The partnership between me and Natalie Sciver-Brunt was the key - she batted really well today, playing her shots, and I was just rotating the strike. Amelia then came and contributed really well. They bowled well too, didn't give anything easily, but we fought well. When we were batting, we knew there's something on the pitch. I told my bowlers it's not a big total, but still we can manage if we can vary the pace and change our line and lengths well. Saika is very smart, she knows what to do and when to do it. She gave us those breakthroughs when we wanted it. She had to go with full pace for the yorkers, that's what I told her.

Saika Ishaque, Mumbai Indians: The plan was to bowl at Navgire's legs early on. We had a word about picking up wickets later in the piece, and I said what happens later might well happen early on! Harmanpreet asked me what I'd do after Navgire hit me for a six, I replied I'll fire the yorker in. Bowled the yorker, and got the wicket, that's pretty much it! Wouldn't say that we had a below-par score, the wicket slowed down in the second innings. Was a good score, worth a fight. (On her new celebration) That was because I had a wicket after a long time. Came along with the motions.

Alyssa Healy (UP Warriorz captain): Look I thought Mumbai executed veery well with the ball. Getting us three down for not much was very difficult to come back from. Our bowlers did a superb job to be honest. We have been working very hard, the nature of the tournament doesn't allow to change many things. The girls are trying really hard so can't blame them. Little lot out of the conditions. We will reaccess and come back tomorrow. Hopefully, we can get the result our way. We have to win the last two games to qualify through to the next round. it's great to see our batters contributing. It would have been great had the top order scored the bulk of the runs. Hopefully we can provide her support in tomorrow's game.

The gulf in class was well and truly on show - the Mumbai Indians let the Warriorz off the hook later, there were a couple of missed chances every now and then, but the premise was set earlier by an extremely fiery spell from Shabnim Ismail, and some tidy lengths from Hayley Matthews in the powerplay, with Saika Ishaque delivering a telling blow in between in the form of Kiran Navgire's wicket.

Navgire was the one who looked to inject some intent in the Warriorz' chase, but having clobbered a full toss over deep mid wicket, she had no answer to the yorker that followed from Ishaque. Chamari Athapaththu was days early onto one that stuck on the pitch off a length from Matthews a couple of overs later, and once Healy ended up being fatally late to a skiddy length delivery from Shabnim Ismail four balls later, the writing seemed to be on the wall already.

Grace Harris required a total of 15 deliveries to get off the mark, and while she middled a couple, sending them over the ropes, Harris was never going to keep going with the required rate already at double figures. Shweta Sehrawat showed signs of promise as well, but she played all around a straight one from Vastrakar. Deepti kept running out of partners as she herself struggled for timing for a large part of her innings, but the spin-bowling all-rounder finished on a good note, reaching her maiden WPL fifty off the last ball of the game.

Sajeevan Sajana had her moments later in the day as well, putting herself in contention for catch of the tournament by leaping and latching onto a skyer offered by Uma Chetry, and had her first WPL wicket soon after in Saima Thakor. The Warriorz will draw consolation from the fact that they batted all 20 overs, but there's not much else to take away for them.

Did....Harmanpreet advice Sajana to toss one up for Deepti to have a slog? Well, we might know more in a bit - but Mumbai Indians take the honours, and despite the belated flurry of runs, they return to winning ways in a big way!
