England had a chance to prove themselves after a forgettable World Cup campaign and they were fabulous with the bat to post a 300+ total. But their new-look pace-attack were taken apart from start to finish. If it was Athanaze inside the powerplay, then it was Shepherd and Hope at the back end. Rehan Ahmed showcased his skills and his spell gave England an upper hand but the pacers kept getting hammered and that surely led to the team's downfall
Having missed out on the World Cup bus, West Indies produced a stellar performance with the bat to outclass England and take a series lead. We witnessed a phenomenal match and if this is what to expect in the remaining contests of this series, then we are in for more entertainment and fireworks. Right! it's time to end the coverage here. Hope you enjoyed it, until next time, this is Pragadeesh and Arya saying goodnight
Shai Hope is the Player Of The Match and this is what he has to say - It came in a winning cause and that's why I am playing for. The great MS Dhoni once said when we had a conversation long time ago that you always have a lot of time at the crease than you think and that was in the back of my head. (On Shepherd) He was amazing and he's one of the guys that you can depend on. Their openers played really well and when we were bowling off line, they punished us. If you want to be the best, then you play against the best team and test yourself. Pleased to get a series lead. Alick is a special player and he has to show his consistency.
Jos Buttler (England captain): Fantastic game of cricket and lot of credit goes to Shai Hope. They batted brilliantly to chase this down and it's kudos to them. The guys at the top set the tone for us, they pegged us back and bowled slow. It was a special effort from them to chase it down. You always want to play well, it's been a little while I have been in a good nick. They fought hard, credit to Shai Hope and Shepherd. It was some fantastic hitting. We had some good phases, especially Rehan Ahmed. We will look to come back strongly. We look forward to the next one and try to rectify our mistakes.
Time for the post-match presentation ceremony with Samuel Badree.
West Indies won by 4 wickets Shai Hope 109 (82) | Harry Brook 71(72) Gudakesh Motie 2-49 (10) | Rehan Ahmed 2-40 (10)
Shai Hope smashed his fastest ODI hundred and in a blink of an eye, he powered West Indies to the finish line. Fantastic scenes in Antigua. Buttler trusted Curran in the penultimate over and had a chat with him after every delivery but things kept going worse for him. What a stunning run chase from West Indies in front of the cricketing icon, Sir Vivian Richards
The start was nothing but commendable from the hosts as Alick Athanze took on the new-look England pace attack and gave them a strong start. The boundaries kept coming in every over inside the powerplay. Athanaze being the aggressor in the opening partnership and King was happy to play the second fiddle.
Athanaze reaches his half-century and kept swinging his blade at everything until Rehan weaved his magic to get the better of him. The spinners bowled in tandem and controlled the proceedings for England in the middle period. Cartey's slow knock didn't help the team's cause and once he got dismissed, Hope was rebuilding the innings alongside Hetmyer. It turned out to be a great partnership and when it looked like, Hetmyer was well-set to take on the bowlers, Atkinson came up with a well-directed bumper to dismiss him.
The fireworks started after Rutherford's dismissal and England bowlers went clueless on how to stop it. Shepherd was in a ruthless hitting mode and England's bowling at the back end wasn't up to the mark. Hope also shifted gears and the duo kept targeting Sam Curran, who conceded 98 runs eventually
Atkinson varied his pace and dragged England back into the contest by getting the dangerous Shepherd out but Hope went after the out-of-sorts Curran in the penultimate over and sealed it in style, much to the delight of the home crowd
48.5 Sam Curran to Shai Hope, SIX! What a way to finish off the match. West Indies win by 6 wickets. Their highest run chase in the Caribbean and second overall. Was a short of a length delivery from Curran, came at a nice height and that has been absolutely powered away from the crease, goes flat and over the deep midwicket fence.
An emphatic hit to bring up his century. A stunning knock from Hope and Darren Sammy's reaction from the dugout says a lot. The crowd goes wild and West Indies are one hit away from taking take a series lead
48.4 Sam Curran to Shai Hope, SIX! What a way to reach his 16th ODI century. That was again a length delivery from Curran, around the middle stump and Hope clears his front leg and absolutely climbs into that, swings it away over the deep midwicket fence.
48.3 Sam Curran to Shai Hope, that was a quickish fuller-length delivery outside off, Hope tries to carve that away past point, doesn't make any contact.
What was that? Curran was under pressure to nail the yorker but misses it by a huge margin. This is nothing but a short-arm jab and it sailed a long way
48.2 Sam Curran to Shai Hope, SIX! Curran missing his yorker by some distance and that has been launched into the stands. A short arm jab to a full toss around the middle stump, that is some shot from Hope, has been absolutely hammered over the deep midwicket fence. A 93 metre six.
48.1 Sam Curran to Alzarri Joseph, slices away the low full toss a tad outside off, down towards the sweeper cover and Hope gets back on strike.
Sam Curran [9-0-79-0] is back into the attack
Two brilliant overs from Atkinson and he has dragged England back into the contest. Who will Buttler turn to now? He's having a long chat with Sam Curran

47.6 Gus Atkinson to Shai Hope, a valuable dot ball to end the over. A defensive push to a good-length delivery around middle, Joseph was looking for a single but sent back by Hope. 19 needed off 12 deliveries. A brilliant over from Atkinson.
47.5 Gus Atkinson to Shai Hope, pulls away the short of a length delivery a tad outside off, down towards the widish long on region, didn't quite time that but has enough time to return for a brace.
47.4 Gus Atkinson to Shai Hope, that was hit the deck delivery, unevenness of the surface on show out there, outside off and keeps a bit low as Hope goes slashing at that.
47.3 Gus Atkinson to Shai Hope, a slower length delivery outside off, Hope picked the slower delivery and crunches it past the cover fielder, has enough time to return for a brace.
47.2 Gus Atkinson to Alzarri Joseph, gets Shai Hope on strike straightaway. Taps away the good-length delivery a tad outside off, down towards the cover point region and takes a single.
