No more waiting game on this. The inevitable has to happen and it did as the umpires have decided to call off this match. Zimbabwe won't be having much complaints on this as they were below par with the bat but Ireland would be disappointed to hear that rain has had the final say. Now, it's time to move on and focus on the second encounter, which starts in this very ground on Friday. Let's hope we get to witness a full game without any stoppages. We are ending the coverage here and until next time, this is Pragadeesh and Arya signing off. Ciao
Update 06:05 PM IST: No update so far from the ground. The covers firmly remain in place which suggests that the rain hasn't relented yet.
Update 5:30 PM IST - We are hardly seeing any movements in the middle, so it is evident, the rain is still on
Update 05:10 PM IST- Rain seems to have relented but looking at the condition of the ground, it is looking barely possible to play any match out there. Large puddles have already formed and it will be an achievement from the groundsmen if they do manage to make the outfield ready for a 20 over run chase.
Update 4:23 PM IST: So it is still raining and it is quite dark out there. Things are looking very gloomy and if you are wondering then yes we have started to lose overs officially.
Update 3:55 PM IST: Nothing new here to update. It is still raining and the covers are firmly in place.
Update 3:41 PM IST: Looks like the rain has gotten lighter. However, the covers are still on and we are still a long way off from the action to restart.
Update 3:15 PM IST: The pictures are not too encouraging. Puddles have formed across the ground. Even if the rain stops now, it will take a bit of time to get the field ready for play.
Update 3:09 PM IST: The rain has started now. It is quite heavy, so what seemed like would be a short break will go on further.
Update 3:04 PM IST: So it is not raining yet. But a part of the sky is dark while it is clearing out from the other side. The waiting game continues.
Update 2:47 PM IST: The good news is that part of the sky is clearing up too. So hopefully it will be a short break. Will be back with any further updates.
So we have seen a bit of lightning and it is really dark out there. Ok the covers are coming on, and the game has been suspended temporarily. Paul Stirling is having a chat with the umpires as they walk off the field. Stay tuned as we bring you further updates on the restart of the game...
Luke Jongwe, RHB, walks into the middle.
25.3 Graham Hume to Clive Madande, KNOCKS HIM OVER! Fullish on off and middle, comes back in nicely. Madande tries to chip it up and over mid on but does not connect at all. The ball comes back and strikes the middle stump, which goes for a walk! Clive Madande b Graham Hume 11 (15b, 2x4, 0x6)
25.2 Graham Hume to Clive Madande, at a length outside off, moves away. Madande taps it to the off side.
25.1 Graham Hume to Clive Madande, short of a length outside off, moves away. Madande punches it to cover.
Graham Hume [4.0-1-7-1] is back into the attack.
Mavuta is playing the counter attacking brand of cricket and that is paying off for Zimbabwe. One can say this is exactly what the doctor ordered for Zimbabwe. They will hope that Mavuta bats long and does the repair job in the same positive way.
