Scott Edwards, Netherlands captain: Really happy to get the first win of the Super 12! We bowled well, all the pace bowlers hit the right lengths, bowled at the right pace and got the ball to move off the pitch. Max was terrific with the bat and his partnership with Tom helped us the most to get over the line.

Craig Ervine, Zimbabwe captain: It was a kind of toss that you would rather lose than win, I thought that the ball moved a lot more when they bowled, but credit to the Netherlands bowlers, they were impressive. Sean Williams and Sikandar Raza played well to stitch together a substantial partnership and bring us back in the game, but we were just not quite up for the challenge with the bat.

Player of the Match, Max O'Dowd: My innings was scratchy to start off with but I was trying to adapt to the conditions as quickly as possible. It took a while, especially against those tall Zimbabwean bowlers, but once I got an idea of the movement and and pitch, I could trust the bounce and luckily it came off well today.

The Netherlands - 120/5, beat Zimbabwe - 117 all out, by 5 wickets with 2 overs to spare.

This was not supposed to be an easy chase, and barring the partnership between Max O'Dowd and Tom Cooper, it wasn't. But that partnership over over 50 proved to be decisive, as the Dutch got home, rather comprehensively in the end.

The ball moved considerably off the surface and made life uncomfortable for the batters at the start of the 2nd innings. Eventually, the first wicket came for Zimbabwe. After that though, some ordinary deliveries, and some positive stroke play from Tom Cooper and Max O'Dowd, wrested the initiative off the Zimbabweans and took the game away from them rather quickly.

O'Dowd went on to get to his fifty and the Dutch were well on course to knock the remaining runs down. But interestingly enough, 4 wickets fell cheaply and the scoring went nowhere for three overs or so! It could have been 5 wickets, had Regis Chakabva stumped Bas de Leede off Sean Williams.

But de Leede did eventually hit the winning runs and sealed what ultimately is a convincing first victory for the Netherlands. Inconsistent bowling from the pacers and the lack of discipline, cost them this innings.

So Zimbabwe are out of the semi-final race now, they have one more match to play, but their competitive nature has come to the fore so far, big time! As for the Dutch, they will be pleased to get on the points table and take a lot of confidence into their final match of the World Cup.
