So, that's the end of the drama then? Well, not really. In fact, it's only the start of it. The squads have been assembled with their retentions but there are still a few holes to plug for all ten sides. They will have the chance to do that at the IPL Auction next month before the real thing gets underway next year. Will the Gujarat Titans defend their title? Or will the old guards in Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians rise back to claim their lost crown? Or will new franchises emerge to end their elusive wait for the prestigious trophy? Well, one thing is for certain. It's going to be one fun-filled ride with the build-up to the tournament promising to be as exciting. Of course, we at Sportskeeda will be right here to provide you with all those updates. That's it for now though. We hope you enjoyed our retention special coverage. See ya!

20:30 (IST)15 NOV 2022

So, we've seen how all the sides have lined up with their retentions but how much do they have left in their purses for the all-important Auction next month? Here's a breakdown.

20:05 (IST)15 NOV 2022

Soorya: That's a very valid point you make there. Let's not forget to add another name to that troika and that's Dinesh Karthik. Clearly, RCB need some youth in their batting department that can carry their team forward. He's not exactly young, but being a local lad and a captaincy option, will they break the bank for Mayank Agarwal themselves? Speaking of whom, fans took to Twitter to share their opinion on his release by the Punjab Kings. You can have a read here.

20:02 (IST)15 NOV 2022

Pratyush: After their struggles to stack up big names and leave other holes to be plugged, RCB seemed to finally have learned their lesson, haven't they? They do look like a sorted unit for the moment and will probably target one of the gun all-rounders available at the auction. Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell might not be around forever though, so the team might want to start investing in their future, do you think?

19:59 (IST)15 NOV 2022

Soorya: Ever since the departure of Gautam Gambhir, KKR has always looked a cacophonous lot, haven't they? The funds they would enter the auction with was always going to be a talking point, on the back of two huge trades. But with a fair few gaps to fill, they just don't have enough to spend at the auction. I would worry looking at the tight purse at their disposal if I was a KKR fan. RCB too don't have a lot of money to spend but they look sorted don't they?

19:57 (IST)15 NOV 2022

Pratyush: The general idea with SRH always seemed to be Williamson in a leadership role with Nicholas Pooran ideally stepping up to fill those boots eventually. However, the lack of runs for both players has clearly been an issue and is probably one of the reasons for their exit from the side. Former Punjab Kings captain Mayank Agarwal might be in the market in case Hyderabad are searching for a captain. Think he could be the one? Since we're talking franchises who might be in trouble, what do you make of the Kolkata Knight Riders?

19:53 (IST)15 NOV 2022

Soorya: Quite clearly, the Sunrisers have pressed the reset button and have decided to throw in whatever moolah they can on some select targets. They had that opportunity last year too, mind you, but ended up with a bizarre auction altogether. Kane Mama returning to the Orange Army you reckon or is this the end of that association too? Also, who captains this side if Williamson doesn't come back?

19:50 (IST)15 NOV 2022

Pratyush: Manic and chaos, indeed. That's what the IPL Auction usually brings along, doesn't it? Well, there are a few trades that have caught the eye but there are only two places to start, isn't it? What is going on with Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings? It's difficult to see which path they tread from here on. I reckon they'll have plenty to do when the auction comes around. Which side do you think might be in trouble, if at all?

19:47 (IST)15 NOV 2022

Soorya: Phew! That was a manic few hours or so. And we're only just taking it all in. So many thrills, spills, shocks and surprises. What do you have to say about all that we've seen thus far Pratyush? Any release/retention in particular that took you by surprise?

19:26 (IST)15 NOV 2022

You can hear the whistles from all those worried Chennai Super Kings fans. Ravindra Jadeja is ready to go Yellove again. How happy are you CSK fans?👇

19:26 (IST)15 NOV 2022

19:17 (IST)15 NOV 2022

Aalllaa re! After enduring a season to forget, Mumbai Indians are going to run it back with Rohit Sharma and the rest of his crew. Kieron Pollard's absence might be felt in the side, unless, they go out and sign a like-for-like replacement. Wouldn't rule that out, would you? Here's how the five-time champions have lined up thus far.

19:15 (IST)15 NOV 2022

Not a team to panic are the Chennai Super Kings and that is archetypal of the man who leads them. Captain Cool will return at the helm of the Super Kings and Ravindra Jadeja will stay with them as well. But who else have they clung onto? Here's a peek:

19:14 (IST)15 NOV 2022

The Lucknow Super Giants are up next and they've made fairly reliable calls through and through. You can see Gautam Gambhir's fingerprints all over this list of retentions. Lucknow have shaped up rather tidely. Here's a look at their squad:

19:11 (IST)15 NOV 2022

Over the years, Royal Challengers Bangalore have had a reputation for tinkering with their squad a bit too much. However, they're backing their core group to come good next season but still might have a couple of holes to plug. This is how they've shaped up after the retentions.

19:05 (IST)15 NOV 2022

It has been a case of letting their heroes go for Hyderabad. After David Warner and Rashid Khan, Kane Williamson and Nicholas Pooran are the latest high-profile names that might not play for the franchise again. Who are the ones retained, you ask? Well, here it is!

Missed out on how the defending champions lined up after the retentions were announced? Well, here's a better look at how the Gujarat Titans have shaped up ahead of the IPL Auction.

18:43 (IST)15 NOV 2022

What does Kasi Viswanathan, the CEO of the Chennai Super Kings, have to say about the releases? Here's what he said: The contribution that they've made to CSK will always be cherished and if there's an opportunity for them to come back to CSK, they will... Thalaivan (Dhoni) is the one who is going to lead the side. He will do his best.

18:04 (IST)15 NOV 2022

And it's official - Chennai Super Kings have released Dwayne Bravo. Two big announcements today, first with Kieron Pollard and now with Bravo. So no more Pollard-Bravo banters in IPL's most coveted rivalry. It's truly the end of a glorious era then, isn't it?

18:03 (IST)15 NOV 2022

Keeping an eye on those Punjab Kings updates? Well, here's the first bit of action. In a move that many might have seen coming, Mayank Agarwal is released by the franchise. An unfair move for the player who sacrificed his spot for the betterment of the side, some might argue. It is what it is though. Shahrukh Khan, on the other hand, has been retained to play for Preity Zinta's team again. It's another overhaul of sorts for the side with Odean Smith, Prerak Mankad, Writtick Chatterjee, and Ishan Porel, Vaibhav Arora, Benny Howell and Sandeep Sharma also make space. The franchise currently have 18 crore in their purse as a result.

17:57 (IST)15 NOV 2022

Right. Big news coming in that Alex Hales, one of the heroes of England's just-concluded T20 World Cup triumph, has withdrawn from the next season and so will not turn out for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Dare we say he would have fetched windfall at the auction had he made himself available, assuming KKR weren't going to retain him of course. But what does this mean in terms of their top-order, which cries out loud for a good hitter of pace bowling? More so, in the aftermath of some massive trades they've made including that of Shardul Thakur.

17:55 (IST)15 NOV 2022

17:55 (IST)15 NOV 2022

Delhi Capitals weren't too far behind in the race for the playoffs either, were they? The team will be hoping for a better campaign this time out and have already made some big moves. Shardul Thakur is added to the galaxy of stars at the Kolkata Knight Riders and Aman Khan has been sent the other way. The Mumbai all-rounder is a raw prospect and certainly one to keep an eye on, for he could be the complete T20 package in a few years' time.

17:47 (IST)15 NOV 2022

From LSG to the team they lost to in the Eliminator - the Royal Challengers Bangalore. A huge overhaul is something that the franchise isn't averse to but given the good work they put in the auction last time around, they might not make too many big changes. We already know that Jason Behrendorff is off to Mumbai Indians while it seems like they've also released Sherfane Rutherford back into the auction pool. The rest of the overseas players, including skipper Faf du Plessis and the now-injured Glenn Maxwell, have been held onto as per strong word. Do we dare say those four dreaded words now??

17:45 (IST)15 NOV 2022

How are the Lucknow Super Giants doing, you ask? No giant strides yet but they've managed to retain a giant of a man in Marcus Stoinis. He was one of their earliest picks last year and it's no surprise to see him back in the mix, especially after the T20 World Cup he had. Having said that, the team management might have a few areas to address. Off-setting Manish Pandey and Jason Holder might be their way to address those issues, reports suggest.

17:39 (IST)15 NOV 2022

Onto a side that has had issues aplenty over the last couple of seasons - the Sunrisers Hyderabad. David Warner and Rashid Khan's association with the franchise is history of course, but there is strong word that the duo of skipper Kane Williamson and Nicholas Pooran have been released by the 2016 champions. Both combine for ₹ 24.75 crore that will automatically enter their kitty - that's a good sum of money to splurge in the auction but the question is, who leads the franchise now? Or will SRH buy back Williamson for a much cheaper price and hand him the reins again?

17:34 (IST)15 NOV 2022

Right then. Shall we move onto the most successful side in IPL history? Kieron Pollard's retirement of course takes the headlines but there's no sense of panic in the Mumbai camp. There rarely is. They've managed to attain the services of Jason Behrendorff in a trade with the Royal Challenger's Bangalore. How Mumbai Indians assemble their unit for the future remains to be seen. Surely, Ishan Kishan has to be a part of those plans despite his recent slump?

17:29 (IST)15 NOV 2022

There are reports coming in that suggest that Rajasthan Royals have let go of South African batter Rassie van der Dussen and Kiwi all-rounder Daryl Mitchell. Quite a surprise considering that they were bargain picks and bring a lot of quality in facing fast-bowling in particular. Remember how they picked up four overseas players in roughly four minutes in the last auction? Let's hope that's not the case this time around.

17:25 (IST)15 NOV 2022

Well then, let's move on to something more... fun, shall we say? Punjab Kings usually tend to make moves that leave quite a few people questioning their calls. This time, the team decided to change their captain. Shikhar Dhawan is set to take over the reins from Mayank Agarwal, whose spot in the retention list might come into question. The franchise has a few decisions to make on the likes of Shahrukh Khan and Odean Smith as well. Watch out for their space. We could see some activity there!

17:22 (IST)15 NOV 2022

17:15 (IST)15 NOV 2022

From the runners-up to the champions, the Gujarat Titans have been busy in the last couple of days. They haven't onboarded any player as yet, but we do know that Lockie Ferguson and Rahmanullah Gurbaz have been let go of to the Kolkata Knight Riders. There are reports circulating that Jason Roy, the man Gurbaz replaced at the Titans last year, has also been released by the franchise. We should have official word anytime soon though!
