The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) marks the tournament’s 18th season. The tournament will feature a total of 74 matches across 13 cities in India from 22 March to 25 May 2025. Kolkata Knight Riders enter the season as defending champions after their commanding eight-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2024 final.
IPL 2025 retained players
The IPL 2025 retention deadline passed on October 31, 2024, with all 10 franchises finalizing and revealing their lists of retained and released players. In total, 46 players were retained across all franchises, with a cumulative investment of INR 558.5 crores, as per IPL's official website.
IPL teams have officially announced their list of retained players for the 2025 season through their social media channels and websites. Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Lucknow Super Giants have each retained five players. Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals held onto six, while Delhi Capitals kept four. Royal Challengers Bangalore retained three, and Punjab Kings opted to keep just two.
