And over the years, he has squared off against some of the prominent names in boxing like Canelo Alvarez, Gilberto Ramirez, Umar Salamov, Joe Smith Jr., Craig Richards, Jean Pascal, etc.

As a matter of fact, six of his early professional outings ended up in KOs and TKOs, whereas nine of his recent fights were unanimous decision wins. Moreover, for his last outing, Dmitry Bivol was defeated by Artur Beterbiev via a majority decision by the judges' scorecard. However, the light heavyweight duo will be facing once again for a rematch on February 22, 2025, for the undisputed gold.

Dmitry Bivol's coach

Gennady Gushianov is Dmitry Bivol’s coach. Gushianov is a former professional boxer since 1976 and his retirement date is unknown. He has been training Bivol since his amateurs as per reports.

Bivol has immense love for his coach and took it to his Instagram for Gushianov’s birthday claiming his affection for his trainer. He also mentioned that his job is comparatively easier than that of his coach as he just needs to follow the plan of action laid out by Gennady Gushianov. Whereas, Gushianov needs to plan out how his disciple needs to outperform the competitors inside the ring and out.

Dmitry Bivol's early life

Dmitry Bivol was born in Kyrgyzstan and has his father’s roots coming from Moldova and his mother’s roots from Korea. Later when he was 11 years old, the family shifted to Saint Petersburg in Russia. Even before shifting to St. Petersburg, Bivol had started training in boxing at the age of 6.
