Turner had been interested in athletics since childhood, but recurring injuries had kept him from getting involved in sports. With time, he developed an interest in mixed martial arts and eventually picked up the sport as a competitor while making a career out of it.

Jalin Turner briefly competed on the amateur circuit in mixed martial arts, where he was featured in a total of seven bouts. He won 5 out of his 7 fights while losing 2. Turner turned up at Dana White’s Contender Series 12 on June 19, 2018, and squared off against Max Mustaki. He put on a dominant show and dispatched Mustaki in the first round by first-round TKO.
