Crute made his professional debut at age 19 in the Hex Fight Series in Melbourne, with a first-round submission victory. He then became a two-time defending champion in the same promotion.

In July 2018, Crute appeared on Dana White's Contender Series, earning a UFC contract after a first-round TKO win over Chris Birchler. He made his UFC debut in December 2018, defeating Paul Craig via kimura submission in the third round.
