With a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and an orthodox fighting stance, the Australian native has trained under Sam Greco and represents Combat 1. Crute made his professional debut at age 19 in the Hex Fight Series in Melbourne, with a first-round submission victory. He then became a two-time defending champion in the same promotion.

In July 2018, Crute appeared on Dana White's Contender Series, earning a UFC contract after a first-round TKO win over Chris Birchler. He made his UFC debut in December 2018, defeating Paul Craig via kimura submission in the third round. As of February 5, 2025, Crute holds a professional record of 12 wins, four losses, and one draw (12-4-1), with five victories by knockout and four by submission. His most recent fight was a submission loss to Alonzo Menifield in July 2023.
