Early Life and Career
Alonzo Menifield was raised in Los Angeles, California by his mother and his brother, after the passing of his father. At the age of 14, he and his brother were placed in foster care, leading to Menifield spending time in 12 different foster homes. Despite only attending Canyon High School for two years, Menifield excelled at football and went on to play at NJCAA Glendale Community College, where he was an Honorable Mention All-American and a member of the track and field team. He later received a scholarship to Texas A&M University–Commerce, where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice. Menifield also played football professionally in both the CFL and Arena Football League.
He made his MMA debut at heavyweight in Bellator, defeating Zach Rosol via TKO in the first round. He then transitioned to light heavyweight and won his next two fights via TKO and KO, leading to an appearance on Dana White's Contender Series.
Alonzo Menifield’s Career in UFC
Alonzo Menifield made his UFC debut on January 19, 2019, against Vinicius Moreira and won the fight via TKO with punches in the first round. Menifield continued his winning streak by defeating Paul Craig via KO with punches in the first round at UFC on ESPN: Ngannou vs. dos Santos. However, his next fight against Devin Clark did not go as well and he lost the fight via unanimous decision at UFC 250.
Menifield was scheduled to fight Ovince Saint Preux on August 22, 2020, but the bout was canceled due to Saint Preux testing positive for COVID-19. The fight eventually took place on September 5, 2020, and Menifield lost the fight via knockout in the second round. Menifield was also scheduled to face William Knight on February 27, 2021, at UFC Fight Night 186 but the bout was postponed after Menifield tested positive for COVID-19. The fight was rescheduled, but Knight was eventually removed due to COVID-19 protocols, and Menifield fought Fabio Cherant instead. Menifield won the fight via Von Flue choke in the first round.
Menifield faced Ed Herman on August 7, 2021, at UFC 265 and won the fight via unanimous decision. He faced William Knight again on December 4, 2021, at UFC on ESPN 31, but lost the fight via unanimous decision. Menifield faced Askar Mozharov on June 4, 2022, at UFC Fight Night 207 and won the fight via technical knockout in the first round. He faced Misha Cirkunov on October 15, 2022, and won the fight via knockout in the first round. Menifield is currently scheduled to face Jimmy Crute on February 12, 2023, at UFC 284.
