Interim UFC heavyweight world champion Tom Aspinall is getting some hard-earned rest after his iconic win over Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 late last month. The heavy-handed English knockout machine stopped his American rival soundly with strikes in the first round, avenging his 2022 TKO loss due to a knee injury.

Tom Aspinall grapples and dominates former rugby star Ugo Monye in friendly spar

Ton Aspinall recently had former rugby star Ugo Monye as a guest in his TNT Sports YouTube show, "Tom Aspinall's Fight Lab". Monye is a former European Rugby Challenge Cup winner and has now found a career as a sports analyst.

Being that the sport of rugby uses a lot of tackles and takedown maneuvers similar to wrestling and grappling, Monye didn't look like a fish out of water against Aspinall in a straight grappling spar. He even managed to momentarily put Aspinall on his backside.

MMA journalist Adam Catterall, who was present during the spar, pointed out the English rubgy star's mettle against the more seasoned grappler in Aspinall, saying:

"I'll tell you what... He's got some good techniques. He had a little whizzer in there at one point... Beautiful technique man!"
