The British tank tree in War Thunder is one of the largest, as it is one of the four major nations in the game. The tech tree features some of the most recognizable tanks, from the Cromwell and the Sherman Firefly all the way to the Challenger 2 and Challenger 3. Being a Western nation, the playstyle of the MBTs (Main Battle Tanks) is similar to that of the German and American tanks in War Thunder.
In this article, we will talk about some of the best British tanks in this free-to-play vehicle combat MMO.

Which are the five best British tanks in War Thunder?
1) Cromwell I
The Cromwell I is a Rank II, Battle Rating 3.7 medium tank in the British tree. It is a low-tier vehicle and is a great way for newer players to grasp tank combat in War Thunder.
It has decent armor and firepower for its BR and is one of the earliest tanks that gets access to neutral steering. The Cromwell I has great firepower, with shells that can penetrate up to 122 mm of armor. This, coupled with its quick reload speed, makes it one of the best tanks to use at this BR.

2) Sherman Firefly
The Sherman Firefly is one of the best-known British tanks from World War Two, and it is one of the best Sherman variants in the game. Sitting at Rank III, BR 4.7, it has decent mobility, but its armor is not the best.
What makes the Firefly stand out is its long barreled 76 mm QF 17-pounder cannon. This cannon gives the Firefly arguably the best firepower at its BR. It can fire shells that can penetrate up to 190 mm of armor, which is more than every other tank at 4.7.
The only downside is that the shells do not have any explosive filler, so enemy tanks might survive even if the shells penetrate them due to the lack of post-pen damage.
3) Fox
The Fox is a fairly recent addition to War Thunder. It is a Rank V, B.R. 7.7 light tank that has proven to be extremely effective. It has virtually no armor but is extremely fast and can effectively flank enemies and catch them off-guard. Being a light tank, it also has the ability to scout targets for your team.
It is equipped with a 30 mm auto cannon that can fire APDS rounds. This is enough to punch through lightly armored targets, and it can also be used to harass heavy tanks. All in all, the Fox is one of the most fun vehicles to play in the British tree.

4) Bhishma TWMP
The Bhishma TWMP is a Rank VII, Battle Rating 10.3 MBT, and is a squadron vehicle in the British tree. It is an Indian variant of the Russian T-90A MBT and is one of the best high-tier MBTs in the game. It has extremely good armor at 10.3 and is pretty mobile. However, as it is a Russian design, the reverse speed is only 4 kmph.
When it comes to firepower, the Bhishma is equipped with the Russian 2A46M 125 mm smoothbore cannon. It can fire the 3BM42 APFSDS shell as well as the 9M119M1 tandem charge ATGM, both of which are more than enough to deal with any enemy you will face. On top of that, it gets access to second-generation thermal sights for the gunner.

5) Challenger 3 TD
The Challenger 3 TD (Technology Demonstrator) is the current top-tier MBT for the British tech tree. It was a much-needed addition to the tech tree, as the Challenger 2 series of MBTs were underwhelming compared to other top-tier tanks.
The Challenger 3 is lighter than most of the Challenger 2 tanks but is still slower than most other top-tier MBTs. Its armor is more reliable than Challenger 2 armor. It has blowout panels as well, which the Challenger 2 did not have, making it more survivable if ammo detonates.
The tank gets the German 120 mm L/55 cannon and the DM53 APFSDS, which is a significant boost to its firepower. The gun, coupled with good thermal sights for both the gunner and the commander, makes the Challenger 3 a very effective tank.
