5 games to try before Throne and Liberty's global release

1) The First Descendant

Developed by Nexon, this third-person looter-shooter game will surely appeal to fans of the Throne and Liberty combat system. This game has you play as a powerful character that wields different abilities and guns to combat waves of monsters.

In The First Descendant, you'll spend the bulk of your gameplay engaging in instanced dungeon-style content. By taking out hordes of enemies, you can collect loot and upgrade your gear. You can also level up you abilities and unlock new playable characters with different specializations.

The free to play game The First Descendant is currently available on Steam for free and is definitely worth a try while you wait.

2) Once Human

The survival-crafting MMO, Once Human, is great for those who enjoy the crafting, customization, and open-world aspects of Throne and Liberty. This newly released game by Starry Studio has a very healthy playerbase and plenty to do.

The free-to-play MMO Once Human has a third-person-shooter combat system, though the game is definitely not focused entirely on the gunplay. In fact, combat can almost be entirely avoided by properly utilizing the game's stealth mechanics.

Many players may opt to engage with the resource gathering and base building that is available in their territory. You can construct a massive beautiful home or even an impregnable fortress if you choose to play on a PvP server.

Once Human recently saw its full release on Steam and if you start now you'll have plenty of time to catch up on the current seasonal content.

For those who prefer a more fantasy-oriented combat system like in Throne and Liberty, Elden Ring is a great choice to spend some time on. Developed by FromSoftware Inc. it has won several awards and nominations since its original release in 2022.

Elden Ring is part of the Dark Souls franchise, which has become popular enough to spawn its own genre. It features extremely difficult third-person combat with a focus on high fantasy weapons like swords, bows, and magic. You'll find yourself facing off against horrible and massive bosses with over-the-top attacks. It is not a game for the faint of heart, but one that is extremely rewarding to succeed at.

Elden Ring recently saw its DLC release, Shadow of the Erdtree, so there's more than enough content for you to try out.

Black Desert Online may be one of, if not the most, simliar MMOs on the market to Throne and Liberty. Developed by Pearl Abyss, it was released in 2014 and is still seeing frequent content and quality-of-life updates.

Black Desert Online has a strong focus on grinding experience and loot from endless waves of mobs. Similar to Throne and Liberty, it also features a fantasy-oriented combat style, but with a much more eastern theme. Players can choose classes that engage in over-the-top, flashy combat, wielding anything from a katana to a magical boomerang. This game focuses much more on solo play than Throne and Liberty, but still features guilds and multiplayer dungeons and PvP.

Black Desert Online recently released its War of the Roses update, adding its first truly massive scale PvP content. Those who are excited for Throne and Liberty's similar content may want to try out Black Desert.

A brand new MMO from Tencent, Tarisland is seeking to compete with World of Warcraft in its gameplay and story. It is available on both PC and mobile, so you can play the full game without limits even if you lack access to a gaming computer.

Tarisland is a very traditional tab-targeting themepark MMO, featuring a classic roster of classes. You can play as a tank, healer, or DPS class and team up with friends online to take on raid bosses and dungeons. Tarisland also features a fully fledged PvP combat system that you can play for rewards and experience. The combat is not as action-oriented as in Throne of Liberty, but it may be a good change of pace for those who enjoy legacy MMOs.

If you're a long-time MMO fan and interested in Throne of Liberty, Tarisland may be a good game for you to pick up and try in the meantime.
