Like any good free-to-play game, The First Descendant has several currencies to keep up with. It’s incredibly common across MMOs as well, whether free-to-play or subscription-based. Nexon’s latest MMO focuses on quite a few currencies, each one with their particular purpose, and method of unlocking it. They also all go to an assortment of in-game features.
Now that players are in the pre-season of The First Descendant, there are only a few currencies to keep track of. This could expand in the future, but for now, let’s focus on what is currently in the game. Here’s every currency you can accumulate, and what they mean.
What currencies are available in The First Descendant
The First Descendant at launch only features five important currencies, each with its use and purpose. These will either be incredibly easy to farm or perhaps on the harder side, depending on what they are used for. Here’s the current list of currencies in the game:
- Caliber
- Kuiper shards
- Gold
- Supply Coins
- Bonus Coins
We’re starting with arguably the most controversial of all of The First Descendant’s currencies: Caliber. This is the real-money currency, and how you can unlock Descendants, Ultimate Descendants, and other items much faster than grinding them out in-game. The only way to get Caliber in-game, other than spending your cash, also involves real money. The Premium Battle Pass does contain some Caliber in it.
Kuiper Shards are another important currency, and while you get them from defeating enemies, the primary way is through your Modules. Dismantling Modules is a fantastic way to farm this currency. Kuiper shards are used to upgrade your Modules and Descendants, making it a must-have.
There are also Supply Coins. These are unlocked by completing Seasonal Challenges, which you can find in the game’s Challenges tab. It could be said that this is the hardest currency to unlock in the game since it is only found by working through the game’s current challenges. You can then use these in the Battle Supply shop on a variety of cosmetics. There are only a handful available now, but this will likely change in the future.
Naturally, The First Descendant’s currencies also count Gold as one of its common resources. It’s the primary resource in the game and is used for a wide variety of things, such as one of the resources used in Researching. You can farm up massive amounts of it by completing Special Operations, but most foes will drop gold when you best them.
Finally, there are Bonus Coins - another premium currency in The First Descendant. At this time, it’s only available in the Battle Pass. These are used in the Bonus Shop within the Battle Pass menu, to buy a variety of useful materials. This could make your leveling experience much easier, but they’re found towards the end of the Battle Pass primarily. As this is only available in one location, it’s not a currency you absolutely must have.
