As the next Diablo 4 Season approaches us, I wanted to look back at the past few years of content. Which of these seasons were the best, and which ones were just mediocre and disappointing? Unfortunately, Blizzard didn’t exactly nail all of these, making this list much easier to put together than I thought it might. Looking back, some of them made me want to quit incredibly swiftly.
Others made gigantic changes that to this day have made the game much easier to play, such as when trying to farm Uniques or other powerful gear. However, this is just my list, and the seasons you were happy with might vary wildly. That’s perfectly fine! We don’t always like the same things. However, here are my favorite Diablo 4 seasons, ranked from worst to best.

5) Season of the Malignant (Season 1)
Diablo 4 Season 1 - Season of the Malignant was miserable. I liked the stronger enemies, and stuff like that. But everything revolving around farming and using Malignant Hearts? That was terrible. Farming constantly, grinding for the materials to access the greater power offered in the first season was all just a mindless experience.
While I loved the base story for D4, moving into that first season was not one I spent a lot of time on. In fact, as soon as I was done covering it, I immediately stopped and went back to playing something else. There’s not a lot of room between the bottom two on this list. That was the only hurdle I had to overcome: which one of these did I dislike the most? Turns out, it was the first season.
4) Season of the Construct (Season 3)
Going from Season of Blood to Season of the Construct really hurt. I loved Season 2, and going into Season 3, I was kind of excited. I liked the idea of having a little robot fighting buddy. Since Mercenaries won’t be coming in until Vessel of Hatred, I was hoping it would be a fun little diversion.
It turns out the dungeon traps, and the Seneschal Construct itself were kind of boring. The robot didn’t do anything that really helped me out. It was a neat idea, and the Governing and Tuning stones, as a concept, wasn’t a bad one. I just felt that the major component, the robot, wasn’t potent and useful.
3) Season of the Infernal Hordes (Season 5)
Season of the Infernal Hordes is a season of Diablo 4 I really wish I had more time to play. It really dropped at an inconvenient time in the world of games journalism. That said, the actual Infernal Hordes dungeons themselves were rad! There were also improvements made to Helltides to make them worth doing as well.
Having little Roguelite challenges I could keep diving into, that got progressively harder is something I can sink my teeth into. I do, however, wish that the various keys for them wouldn’t clog up inventory space. I spent more time juggling inventory space than I did actually killing enemies, it felt.
2) Season of Blood (Season 2)
Season of Blood in Diablo 4 was incredible. It had an amazing theme—cool Vampire powers—they weren’t super hard to unlock, and it also introduced the awesome Lord Zir boss fight. Putting this in the game around Halloween was frankly an inspired choice. There are powers that are still around from this, like being able to turn into a cloud of bats when you dodge. How amazing is that?
Part of what made Diablo 4 Season of Blood so great was that Season 1 was just so frustrating. It was a nice change of pace, and many players to this day look back on it as one of the best things the game has ever done. But one season stands ahead of it.
1) Season of Loot Reborn (Season 4)
Season of Loot Reborn without a doubt is the best season to come to Diablo 4, period. Other seasons later on may usurp it, but I have never felt as powerful as I did during Season of Loot Reborn. Every character class had wildly overpowered gear they could unlock, making some truly overwhelming builds.
Players in Diablo 4 just want to feel overpowered - let’s be honest, that’s one of the biggest draws. Nerfing a bunch of builds and gear is boring, and it’s frustrating. So the developers deciding to let that go for a season and just let everyone be broken? It was a blast. I still long for that kind of power.
The updates and changes to the game this season were among the best to happen in the game’s whole lifetime, to boot. It is the king of seasons, that’s for certain.
