The grappling hook is your primary tool for mobility in The First Descendant, and certain modules let you change how they behave. Officially termed 'Maneuvering' Modules, there are three of them in total. They all go into your Sub-attack module slot and increase your mod capacity on top of buffing the grappling hook in unique ways.
In this guide, we will show you exactly what each of the three grappling hook Modules do in The First Descendant, and where to get them.
What do the grappling hook mods in The First Descendant do?
The three Grappling hook modules in The First Descendant are Multi-Maneuvering, Long-distance Maneuvering, and Mid-air Maneuvering. These modules can only be equipped in your Sub-Attack module slot, meaning you cannot use it at the same time as a proper Sub-attack module like Dual Claws.
Here are some key points to consider:
- Enhancing a Maneuvering mod's rank results in a greater mod capacity increase on your Descendant, but does not increase the stats for what they provide to your grappling hook.
- Using either of these gives you a melee punch for a charged sub-attack, which deals the damage listed on your reactor. However, it has no knockdown or additional properties.
- At rank 0, all Maneuvering mods increase the charge restore time of your grappling hook in The First Descendant by 20%. Increasing the mod's rank removes this penalty from rank 8 onwards.
Now we'll go over what stats each of them confer, and where to farm these mods.
How to get Multi-Maneuvering in The First Descendant
To get the Multi-Maneuverig mod in The First Descendant, complete the Destroyed Temple mission in The Ruins, Vespers on Hard Mode. The mod has a 5% chance to drop as a completion reward on Hard, but only 2% on Normal mode.
Mission monsters all over Vespers also have a slight chance to drop this mod, but only on Hard Mode.
The Multi-Maneuvering mod gives you three charges for your grappling hook in The First Descendant but reduces the max range to 18 meters. In effect, this reduces the range by a little over 10%, which is more than worthwhile as a tradeoff.

How to get Long-Distance Maneuvering in The First Descendant
Farm the Munitions Loading Dock mission in Frozen Valley (Fortress) to obtain the Long-Distance Maneuvering mod in The First Descendant. This has a 5% drop chance in Hard mode, and 4.5% on Normal.
Alternative sources include the Dead Bride boss, and mobbing in various regions of Hard-Mode Kingston and Fortress.
The Long-Distance Maneuver increases the range of the grappling hook by about 20% but decreases the total charge count to one. This makes the grappling hook much less spammable in The First Descendant, and the only good use cases are platforming sections in Echo Swamps.

How to get Mid-Air Maneuvering in The First Descendant
The Void Fragment mission in Restricted Zone, Sterile Land (Hard Mode) is the best place to farm the Mid-Air Maneuvering Mod in The First Descendant. It can also drop randomly from monsters in Sterile Lands and Hagios, but the chance for that is much lower.
Normally, you need to target a surface or cliff edge to cast a grappling hook in The First Descendant. Mid-air Maneuvering removes this limitation and allows you to essentially latch on to air. This is great for general mobility, or for avoiding area damage gimmicks during a Void Intercept battle.

For general use, Mid-Air Maneuvering is the best grappling hook mod in this game. You can simply use it as a 'super jump' to get out of danger, or even for a burst of movement without having to target the ground.
