The Sea of Thieves Cloud Signals are the game's unique way of denoting its World Events. These mysterious cloud formations signal a unique world event, signaling to all pirates in the server about the ongoing event. These often lead to intense PvP battles for the loot that surfaces after the respective World Event, adding a layer of fun and strategy to the game.

In this article, we will explore all the Sea of Thieves World Events and Cloud Signals, explaining what each means and the level of challenge you can expect from them.

All Cloud Signals in Sea of Thieves

Cloud Signals in Sea of Thieves are PvE missions that players can undertake at any given point when they are active in a server. Most World Events are denoted by their own unique Cloud Signal.

Here are all of the Sea of Thieves Cloud Signals and the World Events that they denote:

1) Skeleton Fort

A Skeleton Fort is denoted by a giant skull-shaped Cloud Signal in the sky. This skull looms directly over the location where it has activated, and the color of its eyes can vary based on the time of the day. It is often believed that the skull cloud's eye color denotes whether the World Event is contested or free. However, this is just a myth in Sea of Thieves, and I can confirm this is not the case.

Skeleton Forts are one of the most simple World Events in Sea of Thieves, where you need to beat waves of skeletons till the last Captain spawns, and you beat it to obtain a key. This key unlocks a vault that contains a considerable amount of loot.

2) Fort of Fortune

Fort of Fortune is a glorified Skeleton Fort. It is also denoted by a giant skull-shaped Cloud Signal, but this one's eye sockets and nose will always glow bright orange, irrespective of the time of the day. Additionally, the skull will also have three stripes on its forehead, which will also be glowing with the same color.

The fight in a Fort of Fortune is the same as that of a Skeleton Fort but with more waves and tougher variants of skeletons. There will also be more bosses spawning, but the real prize is the Chest of Legends, a rare chest that is extremely valuable in Sea of Thieves.

3) Fort of the Damned

The Fort of the Damned, like the two other forts, is also denoted by a skull-shaped Cloud Signal in Sea of Thieves. This skull has a grim undertone to it by default, matching the theme of the FoTD event. The Cloud Signal here consists of a skull which is usually always dark in color, and the eyes will be flashing in shades of orange or red.

Fort of the Damned is a raid event, which means you have to start the event manually. This is one of the more difficult events and requires you to collect flames of six different colors and one ritual skull to activate the fort. Alternatively, a Skull of Destiny can make this entire process a lot easier.

Fort of the Damned also follows the same mechanic as the other skeleton forts, however, the skeletons here are always "skeletons of the night," a special variant that needs the light of a particular color to be vulnerable. The final boss here is the Ghost of Graymarrow, offering a formidable fight to all players. Loot here is also considerably more, containing Reaper's Chest and Reaper's bounties as bonuses, among other stuff.

4) Ghost Fleet

Ghost Fleet is denoted by a green tornado Cloud Signal. This is a purely naval combat World Event and is pretty straightforward. However, you need to come prepared for this event with a considerable amount of resources stocked, as you will need them to fight off Flameheart's fleet of the undead.

In this world event, you will have to fight off phantom ships and defeat around three waves of such ships till The Burning Blade appears. Unlike traditional ships, these are destroyed by just three direct hits. Once you destroy The Burning Blade, the event concludes. The final ship drops "damned" or cursed loot of various factions, which can be sold for money.

5) Skeleton Fleet

Skeleton Fleet is another naval combat World Event in Sea of Thieves, denoted by a Cloud Signal which is basically a ship (or a Galleon). In this event, you need to defeat three waves of skeleton ships that will spawn. Each wave will spawn one or two ships, and they require a significant number of cannonballs to be defeated.

You will also be able to board these skeleton ships and prevent the skeletons from repairing, potentially making it easier for your teammate to shower cannonballs and sink the ships. Each sunk ship drops individual loot here, which can range from chests to rare gems to any of the less exclusive loots in Sea of Thieves.

6) Fleet of Fortune

The Fleet of Fortune is a more elusive form of the Skeleton Fleet World Event, and this one is denoted by the same ship-like Cloud, but it glows in bright orange throughout. The event mechanics to defeat the Fleet of Fortune is exactly the same as its predecessor event.

Fleet of Fortune offers more elusive loot and also drops the coveted Chest of Fortune, which is one of the rarest and most valuable loots in all of Sea of Thieves.

7) Ashen Winds

Ashen Winds is denoted by a red tornado Cloud Signal in Sea of Thieves. For many players, this is one of the more interesting World Events, where you need to defeat a certain Ashen Skeleton Lord.

You need to fight off the Ashen Lord while it also summons waves of skeletons to its aid. Be wary of the special attacks that this Ashen Lord has up its arsenal, and avoid them by positioning yourself strategically.

This event drops a significant amount of loot, however, the star of the show is the Ashen Winds Skull, a special loot that can either be sold for a hefty sum or can also be used as a flamethrower weapon in Sea of Thieves.
