WoW Classic SoD Phase 4 Warlock Runes
WoW Classic SoD Phase 4's Warlock Rune offerings are quite powerful - here's what you can do (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)

Warlock has arguably been one of WoW Classic SoD's most powerful classes, and Phase 4 isn't likely to change that. The powerful spellcasting class is also getting three new runes like everyone else to give them some noteworthy upgrades. It’s hard to find a spot in the Warlock spell rotation that’s weak, though. Whether you want to deal DPS or tank, Warlock isn’t a class to let you down on the Classic-era servers.

It will be interesting to see how much of an impact these new runes will have on the loadouts players were running in WoW Classic SoD Phase 3 for Warlocks, as Phase 4 has just begun.

Note: One Rune is still missing: Decimation. Once we’ve uncovered it, we’ll update this article accordingly.

All available WoW Classic SoD Phase 4 Warlock Runes (and where to find them)

Warlocks in WoW Classic SoD Phase 4 have three new runes: Mark of Chaos, Infernal Armor, and Decimation. Here's how to get them and what they do.

1) Mark of Chaos

“All your Curses except Curse of Shadow and Curse of the Elements now apply the Mark of Chaos, reducing the target's magical resistances by 75 and increasing all spell damage taken by 11% while they remain cursed.”

Mark of Chaos makes your Curses more worth casting than ever before. It adds plenty to the strength of the Runes you received back in Phase 3. The ability to add more damage, and lower magic resistance by 75 is pretty serious. If you want this rune in WoW Classic SoD Phase 4, you need to head to Western Plaguelands and go to either (38, 54) or (50, 80) to find a Skeletal Flayer.

Cast Drain Soul on it until you have three Plagued Soul Shards. Then, take these to either Chillwind Camp (Alliance - 43.4, 84.1 - Pixi Pilfershard) or The Bulwark (Horde - 83.1, 72.7 - Prazik Pilfershard), and trade them to that NPC to gain the new Rune for WoW Classic SoD Phase 4.

2) Infernal Armor

“Your spirit becomes infused with demonic energy, reducing all Magic damage you take by a percentage equal to your Physical damage reduction from armor. Lasts 10 sec.”

To unlock Infernal Armor in WoW Classic SoD Phase 4, you must travel to the Blasted Lands (66, 31). There will be Shadowsworn Cultists/Adepts here who you must kill until one drops a Shadowsworn Note. There’s a cave nearby. Enter it, and slaughter your way to the altar at the end (heading down the left path). However, this is a level 53 area, so it’s not recommended you go alone.

When you get to the altar, summon your Voidwalker, and make sure it has the following things: A Greater Spellstone, Shadow Ward. Use both items, sacrifice the Voidwalker, and then click the altar. If you survive the incoming damage, you’ll see a Level 56 Elite Heliath spawn. Defeat it and claim the Rune.

For this reason, it’s recommended you bring at least one Healer with you—such as a Priest or Druid with their new Tree of Life ability—to make sure you stay alive through the onslaught of damage you endure to unlock this WoW Classic SoD Phase 4 rune.

3) Decimation

“Your Soul Fire spell no longer has a cooldown. Additionally, when you Shadow Bolt, Shadow Cleave, Incinerate, or Soul Fire a target that is at or below 35% health, the cast time of your Soul Fire spell is reduced by 40% for 10 sec. Soul Fires cast under the effect of Decimation cost no shard.”

Decimation is an incredibly useful spell for Warlocks in WoW Classic SoD Phase 4. In order to get it, you need to have access to an Explorer Imp, which was something that was used in Phase 3 - so you’re going to need this once again.

For those who don’t remember, you need to use Drain Soul to kill monsters. Doing this has a chance of dropping an Explorer’s Soul. Using this will teach you the spell Explorer Imp, which lets you summon this variation on the Warlock Pet. However, you can have both Imps out at the same time, so you don’t have to waste time un-summoning.

Once you have access to this spell, head to the Burning Steppes, Winterspring, or Eastern Plaguelands, and look for one of the Fel Rifts. Send an Explorer Imp into these, until one comes back with a Legion Portal Tuner. This will come as a reward from Otherworldly Treasure boxes that your Imp brings back. Unfortunately, it’s not a 100% drop, so you might have to grind for a while. It is the one with the best chance, though, at around a 50% drop rate.

Once you have the Legion Portal Tuner, use it on one of the Fel Scars in Blasted Lands, Feralas, or Azshara. It will change appearance, and this is the signal to send an Explorer Imp inside. You’re looking for a Portal Tuner Tuner which again, doesn’t have a 100% drop rate. Use the new Tuner Tuner on the Legion Portal Tuner to turn it into an Overcharged Portal Tuner.

When completing this step, it’s likely that you’ll see a few varieties of Fel Rifts - depending on what you see around them, that determines where the Imp will go. If you see a swarm around it after using the Tuner, the Imp goes to Destination: Vosh’Aranas (rewards like Runecloth, Felcloth).

If it’s a lava red, they go to Destination: Cen’gar (rewards like Heart of Fire, Coal). If you see the rune for Enslave Demon, your imp will go to Destination: Nikskara (rewards like Enchanted Leather, Rugged Leather). It’s said that this portal has the best chance to get the Portal Tuner Tuner, but that’s not been 100% confirmed.

Head back to Blasted Lands, Feralas, or Azshara again, and use this new Tuner on a Fel Scar. Send an Explorer Imp into the portal after it turns red. He’ll bring back the Rune of Decimation as your reward. If the portal turns green instead of red, you may not receive the Rune. There have been reports of players getting it in a green portal, so keep an eye out. This is arguably the hardest rune to unlock out of any in WoW Classic SoD period, due to the length of time it takes. It’s likely better to group with other Warlocks to get a better chance of seeing drops.
