The recent Destiny 2 Developer livestream confirmed one of the most requested updates from the community. While building crafting in Bungie's looter shooter has a different charm than other MMO titles, having the option to create a character around set bonuses is always fun. Thankfully, players can expect several changes for the armor pieces with Codename Frontiers, the game's major update in 2025.

Armor set bonuses are a common feature in RPG titles, where specific pieces of armor under a faction/activity grants bonuses. While Destiny 2 doesn't have a history of providing set bonuses to players, it seems to be changing from next year.

Each set bonus will come with a 2-set and 4-set bonus, allowing players to equip one Exotic with a 4-set bonus perk or two 2-set bonuses.

Bungie announces armor set bonuses in Destiny 2

As mentioned, set bonuses in armor will come with 2-piece and 4-piece set bonuses. This also means that a player can easily choose two different armor set pieces, equipping 2-set bonuses of two different armor sets. Bungie has provided four thematic pieces they're working on for the first release.

They are as follows:

Tex Mechanica:

  • 2-piece set bonus: While shooting from the hip, you have increased movement speed and weapon handling. The effect increases when you score hits.
  • 4-piece set bonus: Tex Mechanica weapons have increased range and accuracy when hip-fired.

Nonstop Aggression:

  • 2-piece set bonus: Final blows with freshly reloaded weapons heal you.
  • 4-piece set bonus: Damaging a target with a Shotgun or Fusion Rifle increases the damage it takes from those weapons for a short time.

Demolitions Expert:

  • 2-piece set bonus: Direct hits with explosive weapons temporarily increase their reload speed.
  • 4-piece set bonus: Repeated direct hits with explosive weapons temporarily increase grenade ability damage.

Vanguard Operative:

  • 2-piece set bonus: Activating your grenade gives you and nearby allies damage resistance against combatants.
  • 4-piece set bonus: Defeating Champions with a finisher generates Special ammo for you and your fireteam.

Players can expect more Destiny 2 armor pieces to come with future seasons and expansions, with the aforementioned four as part of the first batch. Regarding old Legendary armor pieces, Bungie confirmed that the stat types will be changed according to the new stat distribution coming in Frontiers.

For set bonuses, however, players must earn new armor pieces.
