The Lightning Spear Sorceror build in Diablo 4 Season 5 is one of the best starters for leveling and breaking through the end-game grinds. If you're hoping to find a good build to use when starting your seasonal character, this is might be what you're looking for. Players who are longtime Sorceror fans or those who are new to the class will love this setup.

After four seasons of waiting, fans have finally received the Sorceror buffs they've been waiting for. We aren't sure why Blizzard was so cautious about making this class stronger, but it definitely took them a while to be comfortable buffing it up. With Diablo 4 Season 5, the character will be stronger than ever, making it the perfect time to jump into a new build.

In this guide, we'll explain how to set up the Lightning Spear Sorceror build as well as how to level and gear it properly for the endgame.

Lightning Spear Sorcerer leveling tips for Diablo 4 Season 5

Lightning Spear Sorcerer is one of the strongest Diablo 4 Season 5 builds, but it is very difficult and stat-intensive to get going in the end-game. For this reason, the best tip for leveling a Lightning Spear Sorcerer is generally to not level a Lightning Spear Sorcerer.

To be more specific, we strongly recommend that you don't use a Chain Lightning Sorcerer build until you've reached around level 50.

The Chain Lightning build is specifically designed for early and mid-game leveling and will boost you through content quickly. It focuses on using an enchanted Fireball alongside Chain Lightning to clear mob packs with AOE. Alongside these is Arc Lash, which can finish off anything that's left over when your mana reserves are spent.

The utility and defense skills to use are Ice Armor and Teleport. The former will provide enough barrier for you to maintain your HP and mana regen, while the latter gets you out of harm's way.

The final Diablo 4 ability you'll want to slot is Unstable Currents, which will be your main damage cooldown. In the early and mid-game, when you'll be running this build, you won't have enough Cooldown Reduction to use this skill effectively. With this in mind, make sure you save it for dangerous situations or big boss fights.

If you're looking to run the end-game content of Season of the Infernal Hordes in Diablo 4, you'll need to have your Lightning Spear Sorc set up optimally. This involves using some specific skills and enhancements to make sure you're getting everything you can out of the class.

The most important ability, obviously, is Lightning Spear itself. You'll want to run it with Spark and Unstable Currents as these two synergize off of each other, the former reducing the cooldown of the latter. This solves the earlier problem in our leveling section of Unstable Currents only being usable on infrequent occasions.

For defensive measures, it's best to use Teleport and Flame Shield. Using Teleport will make you immune to ensnaring effects and give you the mobility you need to evade certain attacks. Flame Shield, on the other hand, is a panic button which makes you immune for two seconds.

Finally for some added utility in Diablo 4, you should bring Summoned Ice Blades. This skill provides some much-needed cooldown reduction for Unstable Currents and should generally be used every few seconds if available. You can also put a single point into the Firebolt skill to access its enchantment and take Destructive Charged Bolts for damage reduction.

Diablo 4 Season 5 Lightning Spear Sorcerer Items: Best Aspects and Gems

Once your Diablo 4 Lightning Spear Sorcerer is at or close to max level, you can begin focusing on the best Aspects and Gems. The more important of these two, Aspects, have a somewhat lengthy list. Without some of these, the build is rather impotent, this being one of the main reasons you should be leveling with Chain Lightning instead.

Here are the best Aspects you need to collect to get this build up and running at the highest level:

  • Codex of Power Aspects
  • Splintering Energy
  • Rapid
  • Disobedience
  • Control
  • Might
  • Storm Swell
  • Bounding Conduit
  • Snowveiled
  • Legendary Aspects
  • Conceited
  • Shredded Blades
  • Overhwleming Currents
  • Hectic
  • Orange Herald
  • Concentration

Some of these Aspects, such as Splintering Energy, are absolutely vital to making your Lightning Spear skill do enough damage. As such, it's important that you hunt them down as soon as you can. Make sure you take advantage of your Diablo 4 mount to get around the world and collect them as quickly as possible.

When choosing Gems for your Sorcerer, there are a few that are the highest value. For your Helm, Chest, and Pants, you'll want to be socketing Ruby Gems for the extra max HP. On your Rings and Amulet, you'll want to socket Skulls for the bonus armor. Finally, for your Weapons, you'll want to socket Emerald Gems to increase your Critical Strike damage.
