You can farm four types of Void Shards in The First Descendant: Organic, Inorganic, Monomer, and Polymer. Neither of these are interchangeable in value, as you need a fixed combo of two to interact with specific Void Reactors. The free-to-play title has balanced out Void Reactor requirements in a way that incentivizes you to farm all four Void Shard types, and this guide will show you how.
We will go over the best spot to farm each of the Void Shards in The First Descendant if you find yourself short of one specific type.
Best Void Shard farms in The First Descendant
The regular way to farm Void Shards in The First Descendant is to destroy Void Fragments. This is an activity you can find in several open-world zones, and the Hard-Mode versions grant a significantly higher Void Shard yield.
The efficiency with which you can farm these missions depends on how tightly knit the monster spawns are. On that basis, the following are the best Destroy Void Fragment missions to farm Void Shards in The First Descendant:
- Best Polymer Void Shard farm: Destroy the Void Fragment in Mining Site, Agna Desert
- Best Monomer Void Shard farm: Destroy the Void Fragment in Fallen Ark, Fortress - also known as the Bunny Cave.
- Best Inorganic Void Shard farm: Also the Bunny Cave, aka the Void Fragment in Fallen Ark, Fortress.
- Best Organic Void Shard farm: Destroy the Void Fragment in Vermillion Wastes, Agna Desert
All of the Void Fragments listed here correspond to the Electricity element, meaning you can farm all of them quite fast with a high-range Bunny build. Doubly so on the "Bunny Cave," the mission in Fallen Ark, which is a popular destination for grinding XP, Mastery, or weapon proficiency in The First Descendant.

Should you try Void Fragments in other areas?
If you are using other useful mobbing Descendants like Valby, then other Void Fragments are also viable, as long as you are sticking to Hard Mode. You can experiment for yourself with high-range builds, and see which ones your party can beat within a minute. However, for Monomer and Inorganic Void Shards, the Bunny Cave is unparalleled as the best farm.
Are Special Operations a good way to farm Void Shards in The First Descendant?
Since The First Descendant patch 1.0.4, mobs in Special Operations also drop Void Shards.
While it can be a good change of pace and grant additional rewards like Amorphous Materials, Special Operations grant you fewer Void Shards compared to Void Fragments. Nevertheless, given the other resources you get, it is a better long-term farm.
On average, for a 7-round Albion Resource Defense, you will get 100+ Void Shards from fodder monster drop, as well as 20-25 additional Shards of any one type from the Elite Monster on extraction rounds.
