Code Breakers in The First Descendant are key items you may want to hoard as many of as possible. These items act as keys for opening Encrypted Vaults in the game. There are three varieties of Code Breaker in the game, similar to Code Analyzers: regular (White), Precision (Blue), and Ultraprecision (Violet). Each of these corresponds to a specific tier of Encrypted Vault.

Each Encrypted Vault in The First Descendant can reward Kuiper Shards, Gold, and various other crafting materials. However, no matter how many Vaults you locate, they are useless unless you have enough Code Breakers to open them. Code Breakers may be a necessity in The First Descendant, but finding them is not easy. While it's possible to get Code Breakers by simply killing enemies, they only drop when you kill them in the Hard difficulty mode. Hard mode unlocks only when you have completed all the zone missions and main quests in the Normal difficulty setting.

Due to these conditions, completing missions with a large number of enemy spawns is the best solution for farming Code Breakers in The First Descendant. Extraction Missions fit these criteria very well because they not only spawn hordes of enemies but can also be cleared quickly. Hence, these are preferable as you may need to run a mission many times to get the Code Breakers to drop.

Best Location to Farm Code Breakers in The First Descendant

The Anticipated Ambush Point mission in Rockfell, Sterline Lands (Hard Mode) remains the best Code Breaker farming spot in The First Descendant. Once you memorize the spawn pattern, a high-range Bunny build can easily clear this mission in under 40 seconds. This is also a good Gold farming spot if you become efficient at clearing and resetting it.

Disclaimer: In our testing on August 16, 2024 (patch 1.0.7), we found that the Code Breaker drop rates were dramatically lower than before. There are no mentions of a drop rate change in recent patch notes, meaning it could be a bug.

Additionally, Abandoned Refinery Unit—another popular Code Breaker hotspot—has swapped names with Environmental Contamination Zone on the same map (Abandoned Zone, Echo Swamp).

We will monitor these changes, and update the article later to reflect the state of Code Breaker drops once it is officially recognized by Nexon.
