Blizzard has disabled trading in Diablo 4 due to a recently discovered bug that allows for item duplication. This bug was supposedly exposed by a player streaming on BiliBili just over a day ago (August 14, 2024). This bug, if left unfixed, could easily destroy the in-game economy in just a few short hours. The developers are taking the issue very seriously.
In Diablo 4, players can trade armor, weapons, and currencies between characters. This makes up a vital part of the games' economy, which has its own exchange rates and prices set largely by supply and demand. As one would imagine, a duplication bug will send the supply through the roof, destroying the value of the items in question and the currencies they're tied to.
This article outlines what's going on with this destructive in-game bug and what Blizzard has done to try and stop it.

Diablo 4 trading disabled due to bug
In a not-so-surprising announcement, a Blizzard community manager stated that Diablo 4 has had its trading disabled or severely limited due to a bug discovery. This bug allows players to, seemingly, duplicate any stackable item in the game. The implications for this are obviously destructive as players had already begun posting screenshots of maxed stacks of invaluable items.
Blizzard has understandably taken quick action to shut this exploit down before it had a chance to ruin the game's economy. Players have, however, already begun expressing frustration over the trade restrictions as this is not the first time Blizzard has had to do this. Commenting on a Reddit post, Kujak1357 stated the sentiment many other players have had regarding the frequency of having trading disabled.
Other players have begun to point out the generally bug-plagued nature of the game as well. Many seem frustrated with Blizzard's seeming lack of attention to detail with the beloved franchise. Reddit user Mephistito went so far as to even write out their own list of problems that have cropped up so far in Season 5 of Diablo 4.
Hopefully, Blizzard will quickly remedy this bug so that players can continue trading in-game. Although they've understandably made this choice, it's nonetheless quite annoying for players to have their experience hampered. Perhaps, going forward, the developers will be able to find a more permanent fix for this issue.
