Brighter Shores is an upcoming MMORPG from RuneScape creator Andrew Gower, but is it compatible with the Steam Deck? Given its art style and game design, it looks to be a perfect fit for the handheld PC console. While not listed officially on the game’s Steam page, fans have asked Richard Gower via social media about whether this game will arrive on the Steam Deck as a playable option.
There is good news, though! As confirmed by Brighter Shores’ creator on X, the upcoming isometric MMORPG will be playable on the Steam Deck. However, we do not have a date for when it will be available there. It may be when early access drops, or perhaps later.
Brighter Shores is confirmed for the Steam Deck by creator Andrew Gower
Brighter Shores is going to be playable on the Steam Deck, according to Fen Research’s own Andrew Gower. A fan asked on X about the game's availability on the handheld, and the creator of the game gave a simple “Yes,” much to the delight of the game’s fanbase. Given the look and style of the upcoming isometric MMO, it makes sense that it would play smoothly with a controller interface.
The game has a retro-but-modern tabletop look, with the ground being covered in square tiles, no matter where you go. It could easily look like a point-and-click, but given how the maps have been designed, it looks to be easily navigated and interacted with via a controller.
Unfortunately, we don't know if it will be Steam Deck compatible on the early access release date of November 6, 2024. This is currently unknown because the game still has several features to be ironed out over the course of the early access period for the upcoming free-to-play MMORPG.
When you couple the gameplay style, with the incredibly light minimum requirements, Brighter Shores looks to be a slam dunk for the Steam Deck. If the Steam Deck can run Cyberpunk 2077, it should have no trouble running this game.
The Steam Deck can even run other MMOs, like World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy 14. We’ll just have to wait and see if the early access launch gives immediate Steam Deck access.
