Brighter Shores "Unable To login" error code: How to potentially fix

With the Early Access release of Brighter Shores, many players are reportedly facing the "Unable to login" error. As a new MMORPG from the creator of RuneScape, Brighter Shores is a fully online-only game, so if you face this dreaded error code, you can't play at all. Generally, this issue can be both server-end and user-end, so there are some solutions you can try.

This guide will go over all the possible fixes to the "Unable to login" error in Brighter Shores.

What causes the "Unable to login" screen in Brighter Shores?

Brighter Shores requires you to log into your account before you select a character slot, which is where the Unable to login error interrupts you. The cause is usually self-explanatory, but the support code on the top of your screen can give you more specifics.

Generally, this can be due to authentication issues, network issues, or server issues. It also occasionally happens prior to update staging.

How to potentially fix the Unable to login problem in Brighter Shores

First, check whether this is a problem with the Brighter Shores servers. Usually, server-side issues will result in a "Could not connect to server" (MERCURY_CLIENT_COULD_NOT_CONNECT PRIME SERVER) error. However, the Unable to Login error reportedly also happens due to server instability.

At the time of writing, there are no official ways of checking server stability. Try Andrew Gower's X profile to see whether there's a planned downtime or patch maintenance, as official socials of the game have not been established yet. Check with your friends who play or check the Brighter Shores Discord to see whether others are facing the issue.

If there's no substantial consensus that the server is down, try the following:

Restart Brighter Shores if the problem persists after a few retries.
Try signing out of Steam and signing back in. This will generally solve account authentication-related errors.
Try logging in through a different server region via VPN.
Check your internet stability: Restart your router and flush your DNS.
As a last-case resort, restart your computer.

If you can start Brighter Shores but the Unable to login screen is still locking you out, it's potentially a server-end issue. In this case, there's unfortunately not much to do but wait an hour or two before you try again.
