Bungie recently laid out its plans for Destiny 2 in the Episodes, alongside Year 11. The game is currently in the usual seasonal loop, where the community is waiting for weekly resets, challenges, refreshed core content, and more. Hence, players don't have many exciting things to do in Episodes besides the story for the first few weeks, and annual endgame content scheduled for one Act per Episode.
In an interview with GamesRadar, Assistant Game Director Robbie Stevens listed a few things that assure the community of most of the upcoming content in the future Episodes, alongside an idea of what to expect with Year 11's Frontiers.
Bungie reveals plan for Destiny 2 future Episodes and expansion
Some of the core topics in the interview include the future of the Dread enemy faction, Acts 2 and 3 of Echoes, future Episodes, and an overview of how Frontiers will act in Year 11.
Before going into the Episodes, Destiny 2 Combat Lead Ben Wommack confirmed that "Dread is here to stay," which teases their involvement in any upcoming Episodic story or mission. He also weighed down on the Prismatic subclass, confirming that Bungie is currently in work to implement more options for buildcrafting surrounding the subclass.
Regarding the Episodes, the company confirms that it will implement game modes such as The Coil or Onslaught as seasonal activities. For Echoes, however, Act 3 will get one of the biggest Exotic missions based on Nessus, alongside updates to some core features such as Artifact tiers, activities, and loot.
Episode Revenant, scheduled to be released right after Echoes, will conclude the six-year-long fight against Fikrul. In total, Revenant is expected to fully conclude the story thread of the Fallen storyline as a whole.
Episode Heresy, the final episode of the expansion will bring back Dreadnaught as an open-world, while branching a new future for the Hive in the Destiny universe.
All the events in the three Episodes of Year 10 will act as catalysts of what Bungie has in store for Year 11. Robbie Stevens stated:
"Because we've been doing this linear thing for a while now, and we want to get back to expanding our worlds and world-building, expanding the universe of Destiny in general."
Hence, players can expect a lot of world-building and character developments in the upcoming expansion of Year 11, instead of the usual linear story arcs based on a few characters and locations.
