Caliber in The First Descendant is a premium currency that players can buy from the Shop. It can be used to purchase various cosmetics, support materials, convenience items, the pre-season Battle Pass, and Descendants. While many of these items can be acquired in the game through grinding, Caliber is not a currency you can obtain for free.
This guide covers everything you need to know about acquiring Caliber in The First Descendant, including whether there are ways to obtain this currency without spending money in the Shop.
How to get Caliber in The First Descendant
As mentioned, you can get Caliber in The First Descendant by purchasing it from the Shop. You can open the Shop from the Inventory menu. To open the Inventory, press 'I' on the keyboard or the 'Options' key on the controller. Once in the Inventory menu, press 'Q' or 'L1' to navigate to the Shop on the top left. Caliber will be the last option in the Shop above Inbox.
You can purchase Caliber for the following amounts:
- 250 Caliber: $4.99
- 520 Caliber: $9.99
- 1060 Caliber: $19.99
- 2750 Caliber: $49.99
- 3920 Caliber: $69.99
- 5750 Caliber: $99.99
Is it possible to get Caliber for free in The First Descendant?
Currently, there is no way to acquire free Caliber in The First Descendant. While you can earn this currency as a reward for reaching certain tiers in the Pre-Season Battle Pass, you still need to upgrade it to the Premium version with Caliber. So, it's not exactly free of cost.
That said, besides cosmetic items and boosts, everything else in the Shop can be farmed in the game. However, this requires extensive grinding and time.
While The First Descendant borrows many systems from one of its biggest competitors, Warframe, its approach to monetization is quite different. Players have discovered that Caliber is 20 times more expensive than Warframe's premium currency, Platinum.
Additionally, Platinum can be acquired for free via trading, whereas Caliber cannot. This predatory monetization practice is one of the reasons for The First Descendant receiving mixed reviews on Steam.
