In a recent Discord AMA, the developers shared that the game can also be played solo. You can either go in alone or recruit AI NPCs for support.

While playing solo is viable, there's no confirmation if The Forever Winter can or can't be played offline. The game supports peer-to-peer (P2P) networks, but that doesn't necessarily confirm that it can be played offline.

P2P lobbies can theoretically allow for a full-on offline mode, as you can set up a lobby just for yourself as the local host. However, we don't know whether that will be the case with the P2P implementation of The Forever Winter. If anything, it's unlikely due to how resource tracking works.
