Destiny 2 is changing for several reasons, and things might start looking a bit doomed from the outside. After delivering one of the best expansions in the history of gaming, everything seemed to have gone downhill for Bungie. From layoffs to losing the community's trust, there haven't been many positives for the company in the last few weeks.
To add fuel to the fire, various leaks from reliable sources claim that Destiny 2 will not have any major expansion in the following year. Instead, there might be a "2 DLC + 2 seasons" model scheduled for the future, which has already turned a whole lot of players off.
It is evident that the overall mood of a community will shift amid layoffs and reports of changes. Many are even using the term "it has been a good run boys," implying that the game might end, or the overall player count might take a nosedive. However, that cannot be any further from the reality.

Destiny 2 can easily survive even without major expansions and seasons
Let us take the current seasonal loop as an example of Destiny 2's state as a live service game. Bungie followed The Final Shape expansion with Episode Echoes, a new model that completely replaced the past seasons. Looking at the overall impressions from the community, Echoes managed to satisfy players with its content quality.
The only negatives were found in the similarities between current and past seasonal features; a downtime in content between Acts in an Episode; and ultimately, the story's pacing.
Bungie was quick to address the story issue, confirming that it will allow players to complete the entire story of an Episode in the first week. As for the content drought period, the current gap between Echoes Act 2 and 3 is filled with Solstice, granting players something to play for.
In the middle of one of the driest periods in a season, Destiny 2 sits with 50,000 concurrent players on Steam alone. The numbers are much higher if other consoles are taken into consideration.
Destiny 2 will always have players who will grind out the endless content it throws towards them. The game has countless endgame modes that attract competition for PvE and PvP players while also providing a thrill of getting a powerful weapon that might contribute to a class' build. It is a perfect loop that the game thrives on, and it won't be going away anytime soon.
While most veterans will probably look for another MMO/looter-shooter title to play on the side, they will always be there for a new DLC or a season regardless of the content that gets made. Additionally, players will be excited to know that further leaks regarding the new "2 DLC and 2 seasons" have been received positively by many.
Bungie also recently announced that it will remain "committed to Destiny" via its official developer account on X. It should be noted that the company confirmed that it will take things extremely lightly in the year after The Final Shape. There is still a high possibility of a major expansion to be released in the distant future.
The point here is that even without any expansion or the regular seasonal loop, Destiny 2 will keep breathing as it always has for the last seven years.
