Dual Destiny is the newest Exotic mission in Destiny 2 that was hidden behind a minor puzzle including the open world events, bosses, and much more. However, once all that is done, a fireteam of 2-3 players will find the mission starting point at the Refraction area. It should be noted that the mission requires two players to run, not any more or less.
This article will guide you through all the encounter rooms in the Dual Destiny Exotic mission, and how to complete each puzzle before the timer runs out. Hence, ensure one more ally in your fireteam throughout the mission.
Unlocking the Dual Destiny Exotic mission in Destiny 2
To unlock the Dual Destiny mission, a fireteam of 2-3 players must complete Overthrow events in all the three main regions of the Pale Heart, and defeat a secret boss in that area. Readers can refer to our detailed guide to unlock the Dual Destiny Exotic mission.
Once done, interact with the mission banner with two players in the fireteam, and you will be set. While the mission will send an "Equipment Locked" message, all weapons and armor pieces can be changed. However, you and your ally's subclass will be locked.
Starting the mission:
After starting the mission, one player will have a "Light Aligned" buff, and the other will have a "Darkness aligned" buff. Here, look for glowing plates with the respective colors of the buffs. This will be the recurring mechanics throughout the mission, where you must stand on the glowing plates with the matching buff, and start an encounter, or a mechanic.
Keep following this mechanic until you come across a room that is similar to the Cyst: Moth mission. The entrance and the room layout are the same here, with a different mechanic.
Matching symbols:
The next three rooms require you to defeat certain mini-bosses to get motes, look for Vow of the Disciple symbols, and call them out to your ally so they can shoot the crux with the matching symbol.
If you, for example, see a floating crux with symbols, keep an ear out for the sign callouts from your ally, and shoot the matching cruxes.
The first room will have two small boxes where the "Light Aligned" player will see two symbols after defeating the mini-bosses and picking up motes. The "Dark Aligned" player will be able to shoot the Cruxes. The second room will have three boxes, where the "Light Aligned" player will shoot cruxes, and the Dark player will call out the symbols.
The last room will have four boxes with swapped roles. Note that the Dark-shielded mini-boss can be killed only by the "Dark Aligned" player, and vice-versa.
Tormentor and laser clock room:
Stand on the matching glowing plate to start the encounter. Clear out mobs and wait for a Tormentor to spawn. The player that got the last hit on the Tormentor will get a 30-second buff called "Harmonic Sundering." This will let the player shoot any one of the nine Darkness nodes surrounding the big Pyramid.
The mechanic here works like the following:
- After shooting the Tormentor, two players will need to call out the Cruxes that are NOT shooting lasers into the Pyramid. The ones that have not been called out need to be shot.
- The player with the "Harmonic Sundering" buff must then look for the Cruxes that haven't been called out by the two players, and shoot them.
- Repeat this three times to complete the encounter.
One of the easiest callouts will be to label all nine Cruxes 1-9, starting from the top left to the top right.
For example, after shooting the Tormentor, one player will call out 3, 5, and 9, while the other player calls out 1, 2, and 8. Hence the player with the "Harmonic Sundering" needs to shoot 4, 6, and 7.
Boss room:
After starting the boss phase, defeat enemy groups and look for a subjugator boss. Drain 33% of its health to activate the first mechanic. While the boss is immune, two players will look for the mini-bosses in the arena, and defeat them. The "Light Aligned" player will see three Vow of the Disciple symbols from top to bottom, calling them out in that specific order.
The Dark Aligned player must hear those callouts and shoot the symbols in that order throughout the arena. Drain the boss' health by 33% again to get a new boss in the arena. Follow the same mechanic to drain the new boss' health as well, making two bosses invulnerable.
Now, you will see two clocks on two corners of the map, where both players will see different Crux numbers with lasers on them. The objective here is to have the "Dark-Aligned player call out the highlighted Crux in their clock, while the "Light Aligned" player will have to figure the common one out in their clock and shoot it.
Doing this three times will resume the boss fight, where two of you must defeat two of the bosses.
An easy way to do this is to number each Crux based on a clock. For example, if the "Darkness Aligned" player calls out 4,5,9, and 12, with the "Light Aligned" player seeing 3,5,6, and 10, the "Light Aligned" player needs to shoot "5."
Final room:
For the final room, stand on the respective plates and you will be put in a 1v1 PvP situation with your ally. You can have a serious contest here, or let anyone kill the other player to get the loot quickly.
The Exotic class item at the end will match the one class you are playing. Hence, Hunters will get a Cloak, Warlocks will get a Bond, and Titans will get a Mark.
