Is Diablo 4 good now?

The question of 'Is Diablo 4 good now?' is quite a complicated one - here's where I stand (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)

One thing that lapsed D4 fans ask is “Is Diablo 4 good now?” I suppose it’s a fair question since the game changes so much from season to season. You have to look at it from both an Eternal and Seasonal perspective. For example, few seasons can compare to the sheer fun and ridiculousness of Loot Reborn, where every class felt overpowered in one way or another. So, class balance can really weigh into the “fun” factor.

Even if the gameplay/seasonal objectives are mediocre, the classes being fun can help a lot. Between patch 2.0.4 and patch 2.0.5, the game changed quite a bit in terms of balance. But is Diablo 4 good now in Season 6? Well, that’s an interesting question.

Is Diablo 4 good now in Season 6?

Yes, Diablo 4 is good now - even if the Season itself is rather on the mediocre side. I love the game and still log on to my seasonal characters. I just don’t really do any of the seasonal content, because it’s boring at best, and tedious at worst. Nevertheless, the game has seen a pair of decent patches over the past month or two, doing some great things for balance.

While the seasonal content is mediocre, that's just a personal opinion. It all works as intended, I'm just not a big fan of it (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)

I’m glad that Spiritborn didn’t get nerfed, even if, let’s be honest with ourselves - it needed it. Instead, the developers made the smart move to improve all the other classes and builds players weren’t using in Spiritborn. This was a smart idea, and I genuinely appreciated it.

However, is Diablo 4 good as a whole now? Absolutely it is. Even if the season is mediocre, the classes all feel fun to play and I had a great deal of fun playing through the Vessel of Hatred expansion. I don’t really mind that it ended on kind of a cliffhanger either since I know this won’t be a plotline that’s forgotten.

Do I feel that there are some important changes to make in the game? Of course, I do. Most of those are being addressed in the upcoming 2.1 patch, which will probably be late this year/early next year. It’s not a perfect game, but it is a good game.

I really liked being able to get a free level 50, with options on the actual build for it. What a cool idea. (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)

The current holiday event offers some things that the game has yet to see, like a free boost to level 50, and a set of gear for that character. I really appreciate that. In general, I’ve felt the holiday events for D4 have been remarkably underwhelming, but this 2024 version of Midwinter Blight is a bit better.

I don’t think that the game is bad just because it needs to be improved. I won’t lie - the Season is one of the most mediocre ones I’ve played. However, the sheer fun that comes from playing classes like Spiritborn makes up for that.

So, is Diablo 4 good now? It absolutely is. It’s a great time to dive back into the game. I do think that the Season was perhaps made mediocre on purpose, to not take away from the new expansion, but that’s just conjecture and speculation. Well, that’s just it - it’s mediocre, not bad. It’s not for me.
