The Hellbreach Dungeon in Diablo 4 Season 5 is a new style of explorable rogue-like gameplay. The purpose of these dungeons is to introduce players to the endgame activity, the Infernal Horde. These lower-difficulty versions of the Infernal Horde can only be found in Tier 1 and 2 worlds but are still challenging and rewarding for players.

To navigate these dungeons, you'll need to understand the risk and reward of the different modifiers, or Hell Callers, you encounter. It's important to know your limits like in any good rogue-like. Pushing the difficulty too far for more rewards can get you killed, but not going far enough could leave you wasting effort on measly loot.

In this guide, we're going to explain what Hellbreach Dungeons are, as well as how to get through them efficiently.

In Diablo 4 Season 5 the Hellbreach Dungeon instance will be implemented for players to explore. This new style of dungeons is based on the popular rogue-like genre of games. You'll find yourself delving deeper and deeper through the areas, with each successive one having more difficult enemies and better loot.

As you progress through a level of the dungeon, you'll encounter multiple Hell Callers. These act as the Diablo 4 version of modifier choices for this rogue-like system. Each will give a boon and a curse, making your run more rewarding but also more challenging. Interacting with these is one of the ways to gather more Aether, the currency you'll use to unlock chests at the end.

Each new level will require one or more objectives for you to complete. These objectives may include killing powerful enemies, killing monsters in the proximity of a soulspire, or destroying aetheric masses.

While traversing a Hellbreach Dungeon, you'll collect Burning Aethers, a currency unique to this game mode. By increasing your difficulty through the modifiers you choose, you'll be able to get more of these Aethers as you progress.

You will be able to spend this currency to open chests exclusive to these instances for loot. It's important to save and spend wisely to maximize what you get out of each run, as it disappears when you finish.

While you don't want to spend your Burning Aether too loosely, you also don't want to have any leftovers at the end. Similarly, while you want to spend what you have, you want to make sure to open the most expensive chests for increased quality items to drop.

When choosing a build for this new content, there are a few that shine above the others. Below we'll list some that we think are the safest and strongest for clearing this new content in Diablo 4 Season 5:

Best Hellbreach Dungeon Builds:

  • Chain Lightning Sorcerer
  • Landslide Druid
  • Bone Spirit Necromancer
  • Bash Barbarian
  • Andariels Rogue
  • Lightning Spear Sorcerer
  • Minion Necromancer
  • Penetrating Shot Rogue

Understanding your build is vital when running a Hellbreach Dungeon, as it will dictate what kind, and how much, of a challenge you can handle. A build with good mobility, for example, can pick modifiers that clutter the ground with hazards. Similarly, a slow build with high armor and health will be okay to pick a modifier that causes them to take more damage. You wouldn't want to flip these, however.
