Diablo 4 Season 6 is going to be massive, with a wealth of changes coming with it. Some of these updates are only available if you have purchased Vessel of Hatred, but far and large, most of it will be available to everyone. From balance changes, itemization updates, and a whole new leveling system, it’s an exciting time to be a fan of this intense, demon-slaying Action RPG.
Blizzard revealed much of what to expect for Patch 2.0, and Season 6 recently, so we have a good idea of what Diablo 4 will be offering. However, there are some things that are still very much mysterious, like the Undercity content. If you want to know our favorite, biggest changes for Season 6, here is what we’re excited for.
What are the biggest changes coming to Diablo 4 Season 6?
1) Major overhaul to leveling up and Paragon Points
Perhaps the biggest change to Diablo 4 in Season 6 is how leveling will work. It’s going to be so much easier to hit level cap and immediately start working through endgame content. Instead of grinding from 1-100 and the “endgame level” feeling nebulous, you’ll level from 1-60. Once you hit Level 60, you can immediately start working towards unlocking Torment 1 difficulty and beyond.
You’ll also have up to 300 Paragon Points to unlock, though truthfully, you won’t need them all to do the hardest content in the game. It’s just something that will be available to you, and all activities you take part in will give you exp that goes towards these Paragon Points. The first 200 will be reasonably simple to get, but the diminished returns/higher exp costs will really start to hit home at this point.
2) Party Finder
The Party Finder is probably my most-anticipated feature. I love playing co-op/multiplayer in Diablo 4, but not as many of my close friends are playing actively - though that might change in Season 6. Being able to find a party for the more challenging content, or content that I’d simply like company in, will be something to look forward to in the game.
Players will be able to play through most Diablo 4 Season 6 content that way - from Helltides to Nightmare Dungeons. If you purchase the expansion, you’ll also have access to Raids and the Time Trial dungeon, The Undercity.
3) Runewords (if you purchase Vessel of Hatred)
One feature that does require the Vessel of Hatred expansion, that’s coming in Diablo 4 Season 6, are Runewords. This is something that has hotly divided the community. Some people think it’s a dumb way to recapture the heat that Diablo 2 had, but I don’t agree.
This has the potential to shape classes in exciting new ways, and offer players power they’ve never had before. Barbarians teleporting and Necromancers berserking? It could be a lot of fun. However, there’s still plenty we don’t know about this system.
We don’t know how easy or challenging it will be to find the best Runewords. That’s what I hated about D2’s system - it was such a chore to get the best Runewords and make the desired combos. This system has the potential to completely change the game, or flop overwhelmingly hard - but I’m excited either way.
4) Itemization updates mean end of “Sacred” items
There are some pretty big changes coming to Itemization in Diablo 4 Season 6 as well. Sacred Items, which were just a slightly better upgrade before you got to “Ancestral” items, will be a thing of the past. We also won’t always have Item Level 925 gear on every character. We’ll be looking at items around Level 800, but they’ll still be strong.
Ancestral gear will still be around, as will all of your favorite Uniques and Mythic Uniques, but it sounds like they’ll be a little harder to get. You shouldn’t expect Uniques or better until Torment 1, but that will be easy to access. Stats are going to be lower and the power level of the game is going down a bit, but it shouldn’t make the experience harder.
5) Each class receives a powerful new skill to utilize
With new threats in Diablo 4 come greater challenges. These should be available to players regardless of whether they purchase the Vessel of Hatred expansion, but we haven’t heard one way or another yet. Each character class will receive a new skill, as well as the standard upgrade paths for each of them.
- Barbarian: Mighty Throw (Weapon Mastery Skill): Throw your weapon, dealing 60% Weapon Damage upon impact and sticking in the ground. It pulses and deals 20% Weapon damage every second for four seconds.
- Druid: Stone Burst (Earth Core Skill): Gather stones beneath your enemies and detonate them for 80% weapon damage. Channeling deals 20% Weapon damage and increases the size of the affected area, up to a 400% increase after 1.0 seconds.
- Necromancer: Soulrift (Darkness Ultimate Skill): Corrupt nearby enemies for eight seconds, dealing 65% Weapon Damage per second. Every 0.25s, rip out and absorb the soul of an enemy, generating two Essence and granting a Barrier for 2% of your Maximum life for five seconds.
- Rogue: Dance of Knives (Cutthroat Agility Skill): While Channeling, gain 20% increased movement speed, 10% Dodge chance, and launch knives at nearby enemies, each dealing 42% Weapon damage.
- Sorcerer: Familiar (Conjuration Skill): Summon a Familiar of the element of your last cast Skill for eight seconds. The Familiar chases enemies and periodically explodes, dealing 40% of its element’s damage in an area. You may have six Familiars summoned at a time.
In addition, each class will have five new Passives and additional connections in the Skill tree of each. This means it will be a bit easier to unlock some of these, making your builds a little more flexible as you level up.
