Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred introduced some major difficulty changes, including Torment I through IV. After players experiment with Normal, Hard, Expert, and Penitent, they can dive into the Torment difficulty levels. However, this will take a little bit of work. Casual players don’t have to go to Torment if they don’t want to, but there is some content that is locked behind harder difficulty levels.

In addition, there’s also the Season Journey for Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred, which does require going to Torment I and beyond for Season 6. Depending on your build, or if you have friends that will go with you, unlocking Torment can be very easy, or incredibly frustrating. Here’s what you need to know.

In order to unlock Torment difficulty in the title, you need to clear Tier 20 of The Pit of Artificers. You also have to reach the new level cap of 60. If you’re doing this on the Eternal Realm, you still have to do it this way - though you may have a character that’s only 10 levels away. Due to the level crunch, players at best start at level 50, and have to make their way to the new level cap of 60.

Whether you’re a Seasonal character or an Eternal character, it’s done the same way. Just reach level 60 on any character you’d like, and grind your way through the Pit of Artificers in Cerrigar. It’s not a challenging thing to do this time around.

Any character class can solo this easily enough, but you don’t have to solo if you don’t want to. If you have a stronger friend, and your build isn’t strong enough yet, you can bring a friend with you into The Pit to get through level 20. Beyond this, there are three more difficulties: Torment II, Torment III, and Torment IV.

Each Torment difficulty increases the amount of Gold and Experience you receive and increases your chance of receiving Legendary, Unique, and Mythic Items. However, you lose resistances and armor for each Torment tier.

While we cannot confirm if easier levels unlock Mythic Uniques, we do know you don’t have to be on Torment I to get normal Uniques. If you want to know all the Torment requirements, you can find them below:

  • Torment I: Level 60, Pit Level 20
  • Torment II: Level 60, Pit Level 35
  • Torment III: Level 60, Pit Level 50
  • Torment IV: Level 60, Pit Level 65
