Throne and Liberty is an upcoming MMORPG published by Amazon Games. This new fantasy MMO is heavily inspired by old-school MMOs like Runescape and Tibia. By looks, it seems the game aims to be the modern equivalent of the classic MMORPG, Lineage 2, which was developed by the same team and has become quite popular in Asian countries like Korea and Japan.
So far, the developers have shared that the game will be released on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. However, many players are wondering if the game will need the Game Pass to be played on Xbox. If you're one of them, the answer is: Yes, you will need a Game Pass Core subscription to play Throne and Liberty if you want to have early access. If you don't then it's not needed, just an Xbox account will suffice.
Will You Need a Game Pass Core Membership to Play Throne and Liberty?
Game Pass Core is an evolved version of Game Pass that allows players to play Online Multiplayer Games and get other benefits. Throne and Liberty have explicitly stated in the FAQ section of their official website that you will not need to have a Game Pass Core membership to play Throne and Liberty, however, if you want to play the game on early access then an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or an Xbox Game Pass Core membership will be needed.
Xbox Game Pass is a paid monthly subscription that offers a list of games subscribers can download for free. This list cycles frequently, offering a new selection of titles to users. While the subscription mostly offers older games, many new games often make their way to the lists, with some even becoming available on the very first day of their launch.
By linking their accounts on certain online games with Game Pass, users can get special perks like XP Boosts, new playable characters, and more. A good example of this would be Riot Games' partnership with Game Pass. Although Riot's popular games like League of Legends and Valorant are completely free to play, players can still link their accounts for special perks.
