Does The Forever Winter have PvP multiplayer?

With the Early Access release of The Forever Winter this year, many players have been wondering whether the game will have a PvP mode. It is a multiplayer extraction shooter, and many of the genre staples such as Escape From Tarkov have made PvP one of their core elements. However, this does not seem to be the case with The Forever Winter, be it for better or for worse.

Will The Forever Winter have PvP features on release?

The Forever Winter does not have any PvP features during its Early Access, and it's unlikely to be introduced on a potential full release in 2025.

The non-existence of PvP is not due to technical or coding restrictions. In fact, in the last Forever Winter closed beta that took place in June, an oversight let players melee their teammates in the Innards (the social hub spot). However, this has been registered as an unintentional bug rather than a feature.

Despite there not being an in-game limitation, the lack of PvP is a design choice taken very early on in the development of the game. Other popular titles in the extraction genre generally define their gameplay as PvPvE. Instead of this tried-and-tested formula, The Forever Winter innovates its "PvEvE" labels.

The immersive world of this game is torn by warring factions with the usual hallmarks of military instruments, including giant mechs. The very central catch of the game is that you're not those killing machines. Instead, you're a loot goblin trying to survive in the dredges by scavenging whatever resource you can.

This is where the "EvE" part of the PvEvE experience kicks in. As you sneak through the maps, you'll come across the factions engaged in full-fledged battles, which often turn into spectacular backdrops that you must hide from.

Theoretically, it's possible for the developers to let you play as these overpowered factions, but that goes against the point of the game. As it stands, you can only team up in co-op gameplay with three other party members.

There's no friendly fire or PvP among parties, as there's only one party in a lobby/session. You can even opt to go in solo because of this, and thanks to no PvP, the game is designed to be quite challenging against enemy AI.
