Dune Awakening release window, features, platforms, and more

Dune Awakening was featured during Gamescom 2024, alongside a release window for the title. The developers also teased some of the gameplay players can expect, with greater details coming later on. The upcoming survival MMO is set in the arid, unforgiving world of Arrakis, where the goal is to make the spice flow. Originally revealed at Gamescom 2022, we’re now starting to get a good idea of what to expect from the title.

Funcom’s upcoming survival MMO received a brand-new trailer during the event and even a brief gameplay peek. Here’s what we know about Dune Awakening as of Gamescom 2024, from the release window to some of the cool new features on the way in the game.

Dune Awakening will be released in 2025 on several platforms

Dune Awakening will be released in early 2025 and will not be a PC-exclusive MMO. It’s more common to see MMOs released on consoles these days, and that will be the case for this game as well. It will be playable on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Sorry, Switch fans, it won’t be playable on the Nintendo console.

While the player character in Dune Awakening isn’t from the films or books, they can still potentially be aligned with them. At this time, we know that players can align themselves with either House Harkonnen or Atreides. In addition, you can form guilds and battle for the most important resource on this dry, dusty planet: Spice. The spice must flow, so players will have to make sure the supply of the hallucinogenic substance flows freely.

On top of this, we also have a clearer idea of what character classes players will be able to pick from, each with their own gameplay style. Players can pick the paths of Trooper, Planetologist, Swordmaster, Bene Gesserit, and Mentat.

There were some very fascinating aspects to the survival MMO's trailer during Gamescom 2024. One of these was the fact that you can harvest the blood of defeated enemies, and have that converted into water - after all, you have to stay hydrated, especially on Arrakis. The combat looked interesting, with melee combat and the deployment of hunter drones to attack from a distance.

Dune Awakening, unfortunately, does not have a release date yet but is expected in the early days or months of 2025. Much of the game is still a mystery, but it is one of the MMOs we’re looking forward to finally releasing.
